Paddlers will find an endless supply of open water and<br />
solitude in <strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong>. The Wisconsin River alone offers<br />
nearly 50 miles of paddling from the headwaters in Land O’<br />
Lakes south to Conover and Eagle River and west to the<br />
St. Germain area.<br />
Explore native history in southwestern <strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong> on the<br />
reservation of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior<br />
Chippewa. The George W. Brown, Jr. Ojibwe Museum &<br />
Cultural Center 2 features fascinating exhibits including a<br />
24-foot dugout canoe.<br />

Silent Sports Trail Map. A great place for nature lovers is the<br />
Catherine Wolter Wilderness Area, where the trails will take<br />
you to pristine lakes. Hikers interested in a longer adventure<br />
can explore the 1.5 million acre Chequamegon-Nicolet<br />
National Forest via the Anvil Lake Trail, just east of Eagle<br />
River. The trail is just off Old Military Rd, an 1800s route that<br />
follows a Native American trail used for hundreds of years.<br />
The longest trail in the county is the nearly 50-mile Heart of<br />
<strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong> Paved Bike Trail System, connecting<br />

Manitowish Waters, Boulder Junction, Sayner and St. Germain.<br />
Mountain bikers will find some family-friendly off-road riding<br />
on the Madeline Lake Trail in the Minocqua area and rolling<br />
single track on the WinMan Trails between Winchester and<br />
Manitowish Waters.<br />
Near Conover, enjoy approximately 20 miles of horseback<br />
riding on the scenic trails at Torch Lake 13 , Ski Hill Trails<br />
and Pioneer Creek Trails.<br />
ATV riders can explore <strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong>’s expanding riding options.<br />
Discover routes connecting the communities of Eagle River,<br />
Conover, Phelps, Land O’ Lakes, St. Germain and Arbor Vitae<br />
with links to systems east and north of <strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />
Adventurer/dual-sport motorcycle riders will find numerous<br />
scenic and unpaved roads to explore.<br />
All of these activities might make you hungry. Restaurants<br />
in Boulder Junction or Sayner-Star Lake are good places for a<br />
central rest stop. Head to the Eagle River Farmers’ Market<br />
on Wednesdays and Sundays for fresh produce and baked<br />
goods. Stop by a friendly tavern for lunch or settle in to a<br />
lake-view table at dinner. Whether you’re looking for a classic<br />
cocktail or unforgettable dessert, you’ll find it in <strong>Vilas</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />
