WIN TICKETS to see The National Theatre’s acclaimed production of War Horse The National Theatre’s acclaimed production of War Horse, embarks on a major tour of the UK, coming to The Brighton Centre from 25th January to 10th February 2018. The tour of War Horse coincides with the Centenary commemorations of the end of the First World War and follows the production’s enormously successful tour of the UK and Ireland in 2013-2014. War Horse, which has been seen by over seven million people worldwide, has won 25 awards including the Tony Award for Best Play on Broadway. Directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, Nick Stafford’s adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s remarkable story of courage, loyalty, and friendship, about a young boy called Albert and his horse Joey, set against the backdrop of the First World War is the most successful play in the National Theatre’s history. Michael Morpurgo said: ‘After a few months rest, out at pasture, Joey, the War Horse and his great team from the National Theatre, will be touring the UK again, from 2017 through to 2018 and the centenary of the end of the First World War, taking their show all over the country, to towns and cities, many of them places War Horse has not been seen before. I am so pleased this is happening; that so many more people will have the chance to enjoy this unique theatrical event. Welcome to our "Grandparents & Guardians" Family section N Now is the time for resolutions and turning and nippy for my liking. over new leaves. We can all go on a diet I'm not alone in thinking for three days, give up a few bad habits January is a bit rubbish. and promise ourselves we'll behave. Who Apparently the 15th of are we kidding ? January is "Blue Monday" the most depressing day of the year ! Even if it is cold and dark, there's no point in moaning about it, you've just got to knuckle down and make the best of it. I'm not sure January is a good time for discipline and self denial. I think after the whirlwind of festive excitement I've just survived, I'm due a bit of self indulgance and relaxation. It is lovely to sit around a huge pile of food surrounded by my nearest and dearest, but they are all a bit blooming loud! No chance of hearing sleigh bells in the snow over the racket that lot made. Seven kids, three dogs, a couple of grumpy old men and a smattering of tipsy teenage grandchildren. It's enough to drive you to drink! The 27th of December was a very strange day, I woke up in a quiet, tidy house with no kids and it felt about as unfamiliar as if I'd woken up on the moon. So 2018 is here, though as regular readers will know, I never really start enjoying a new year until the daffodils have put an appearance in. I know we're past the darkest point of the year, and the days are getting longer, but they're still a bit short A good start might be entering our War Horse competition opposite. Winning that should see you through Blue Monday with a smile on your face. And there are of course plenty of things to see and do at this time of year. We've got lots of ideas on the pages of this magazine, so have a good look, pick something you fancy and keep the blues at bay.
