Their school wish list: Addy — “I wish we could get upgraded sidewalk chalk.” She adds: “The kids are friendly and the staff is really nice ... and I like homework club.” Anthony — “I like that we get two recesses, but I wish we were allowed to be barefoot at school.” Foster child — “I like learning at school and reading stuff. I wish I could bring my foster mommy to school everyday.” Whitney and Michael are both Connecticut natives. She graduated from The Gilbert School, a public high school in Winsted, and from Albertus Magnus College (bachelor’s degree in business management, with honors). Michael graduated from Enfield High School and Westfield State College (bachelor’s degree in history). He taught middle school social studies for five years before entering the insurance industry. They met through a Granby native — a high school friend of Whitney's who shared a college suite with Michael and introduced them in 2006. They were married in 2008. With their children, Whitney says, “We try to focus on being kind, reasonable, flexible and fair. I think you need to approach all tasks with your best effort and intentions, celebrate the victories and learn from the mistakes.” She adds, “I think you need to balance some good planning and organizing with realistic expectations and a willingness to remain flexible and fly by the seat of your pants. It’s a willingness to be serous at times and to laugh at yourself at other times. This philosophy has gotten us this far!” “I like the beautiful scenery on my ride to school.
