310. FIND THE ART IN PARTEE
We bet you didn’t know that Lower School Kindergarten Aide Laura Partee is
also a fantastic artist. She has created this original oil painting that we know will
be enjoyed by all who see it, especially her students!

311. FAR OUT
Chris Shands is a Richmond contemporary artist whose work is influenced by her
travels in the Far East as a child. The use of bold but feminine colors, coupled
with a touch of gold leaf bring a delicate nature to her abstract and figurative
paintings. Chris begins many of her paintings by layering rich colors using
random brush strokes. Utilizing various tools, she begins the process of pushing
and pulling the paint, manipulating the layers and editing out what is no longer
needed. This process allows the history of the many layers to reveal themselves
on the canvas.

312. DON’T DALLY FOR THIS TALLEY
Laura Talley attempts to capture the random order of the natural world in her
work. She posits that objects in nature do not follow a discernible pattern and
strives for the same approach in her work. The creative process occurs
organically as each painting takes shape. To help achieve the effect of
randomness, she drags texturizing medium across a blank canvas and adds
multiple layers of thinned acrylic paint; she moves paint around the canvas using
a blow dryer or tilting the canvas rather than using a brush. Multiple colors are
dripped onto the canvas to intermingle. Laura’s work has been described as
ephemeral and complex, but not fussy.

313. UPPER SCHOOL CHAPEL
Take home this 8” x 10” acrylic on canvas painting of St. Christopher’s Upper
School Chapel. Dr. Churchill Chamberlayne, founder of the school, was an
Episcopal priest who recognized the significance of daily chapel in undergirding
the school’s core values. Upper School boys start every day in chapel, and
alumni repeatedly remember this daily gathering as the most memorable ritual of
their St. Christopher’s experience. Angie Hutchison is a Saints parent and artist.

314. TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN
As the total solar eclipse swept across a narrow portion of the U.S. this past
summer, award-winning photographer and St. Christopher’s student Tyler
Hutchison ’19 traveled to Columbia, South Carolina to capture its magnificence.
This framed 8”x10” photograph will be a great reminder of the interest that swept
the world regarding this phenomena.
