Overall Programme (for accompanying persons)
Wednesday, 23 rd April 2008
From about 10.00 till 15.00
On a bus trip, first going along the romantic Ziller Valley, we visit Rattenberg, the smallest town
in Austria with about 440 inhabitants, on the banks of the Inn.
It was first recorded in writing in 1254 and in 1393 it was granted the status of a town.
As one of the few towns in Europe that has retained its mediaeval town plan almost entirely, it
has a special flair.
Here we take a guided tour of the town which will familiarise us with everything worth seeing in
and around Rattenberg on the Inn.
Straight after this we will visit the glassblowers based in Rattenberg. Here glassmaking goes
back to the 19th century. At that time, individual glass finishers settled near the Kramsach
glassworks that could boast 300 years of tradition. Today a dozen glass finishing businesses
emphasise Rattenberg’s reputation as the Glass Town of the Tyrol.
To finish the day there is the opportunity to reflect on what you’ve seen and experienced over
a good cup of coffee or on a short shopping trip. Then the bus brings us back to Mayrhofen for
the closing rustic hut evening in the Tristenbachalm hut in Ginzling.
Cost: € 45.00 per person excl. VAT
Please apply with the enclosed application form.
