The Hobbiton Movie Set Tour is a visitor experience based at the
original location where Hobbiton was created for the filming of
The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films.
Your guide will escort you through the ten acre site recounting
fascinating details of how the Hobbiton Movie Set was created.
Hobbit holes, The Green Dragon Inn, The Mill and other
structures can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful
piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into The Shire
from Middle-earth. After your tour of the film set return to
The Shires Rest Cafe and visit The Shire Store.

Situated in the Okere Falls Scenic Reserve, the grade 5 Kaituna
River features the world’s highest commercially rafted waterfall,
the awesome 7 metre Tutea Falls. Although this trip provides
full-on action, every rapid is followed by calm water, making it
very forgiving for a grade 5 river. For those who prefer a quieter
ride, there’s always the Rangitaiki Grade 3–4 rapids, or the
Rangitaiki Grade 2, suitable for participants as young as 5 years.
Departs: Both Rangitaiki trips are 10.30am departure
ex Rotorua allow 5.5 – 6 hours including transfers.
For the Kaituna allow 3 hours including transfers.
NOTE: Departure times differ in Summer.

Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to
reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones.
Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural
performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!

Mitai Maori Village will give you an authentic introduction to
the Maori culture leaving you amazed and in awe. Be enthralled
by the natural bush setting; see warriors in traditional attire
paddle in an ancient canoe. Marvel at crystal clear water flowing
directly from earth, view glow worms in their natural habitat.
See traditional cooked hangi meal being lifted from the ground.
During our cultural performance, you’ll be captivated by the
displays of weaponry and combat, coupled with the grace and
beauty of the poi dance. A sacred and spiritual place that offers
an indigenous cultural experience like no other.
