90 YEARS SERVING THE COMMUNITY 1926 - 2016<br />

Yet aga<strong>in</strong> we shared <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Killay<br />

Community Council Fun Week, with Canon<br />

Gordon Lee (due to my be<strong>in</strong>g on annual<br />

leave) lead<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> open air Songs <strong>of</strong> Praise<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prec<strong>in</strong>ct and we hosted an afternoon<br />

event for children. We also had ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

community Carol Service <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prec<strong>in</strong>ct<br />

just before Christmas. Our o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

Ecumenical <strong>in</strong>volvement still cont<strong>in</strong>ues<br />

with two united services each year and <strong>the</strong><br />

annual Quiz.<br />

I cont<strong>in</strong>ue <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice hour <strong>in</strong> church on<br />

Monday even<strong>in</strong>gs between 6.00pm and<br />

7.00pm. For more urgent th<strong>in</strong>gs I can be<br />

contacted at <strong>the</strong> Vicarage and, <strong>in</strong><br />

emergencies, I am available at all times. I<br />

try to have Friday as a day <strong>of</strong>f and would<br />

appreciate be<strong>in</strong>g contacted on that day<br />

only <strong>in</strong> an emergency. Hav<strong>in</strong>g said that, I<br />

like to be flexible and I do occasionally<br />

change my day <strong>of</strong>f accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> needs<br />

<strong>of</strong> people.<br />

The Parish Centre cont<strong>in</strong>ues to take up a<br />

lot <strong>of</strong> our time this year. Work started<br />

towards <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year and will be<br />

completed by March 2005. Mr Mike Powell<br />

felt that he could no longer cont<strong>in</strong>ue to<br />

head this project and his place was taken<br />

by Mr George Ward. I would like to thank<br />

Mr. Mike Powell for his hard work <strong>in</strong><br />

driv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> project forward. Fundrais<strong>in</strong>g<br />

has <strong>in</strong>cluded a Parish D<strong>in</strong>ner at <strong>the</strong><br />

Dunvant Rugby Club cooked by myself. I<br />

would like to thank everyone who helped<br />

and supported <strong>the</strong> event especially Mr<br />

David Vaughan and <strong>the</strong> Dunvant Rugby<br />

Club s<strong>in</strong>gers.<br />

Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g is be<strong>in</strong>g undertaken by Mrs Carol<br />

Davies as a lay reader. We still need to<br />

identify a group <strong>of</strong> people to start a lay<br />

visit<strong>in</strong>g course. We started to review<br />

Children’s work <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Parish.<br />

The younger element <strong>of</strong> Junior church<br />

needs to be fur<strong>the</strong>r thought out before<br />

beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g a “recruit<strong>in</strong>g” drive. There has<br />

been a fairly radical look at <strong>the</strong> senior<br />

section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Junior Church.<br />

The Junior Youth club has cont<strong>in</strong>ued to<br />

build up and we may look at a different<br />

night. Senior Youth Club cont<strong>in</strong>ues to<br />

provide a service. Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> club<br />

were expected to come to church dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

run up to Youth Camp which saw us<br />

send<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> excess <strong>of</strong> a dozen children to <strong>the</strong><br />

camp. We tried to encourage <strong>the</strong>m by<br />

hold<strong>in</strong>g a Eucharist with a bit <strong>of</strong> a<br />

Caribbean flavour. We were fortunate to<br />

obta<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> services <strong>of</strong> someone who played<br />

<strong>the</strong> steel pans. Sadly this year we had to<br />

close our branch <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> GFS due to fall<strong>in</strong>g<br />
