Dear Friends,
Christmas reminds us of the birth of Jesus, and an
opportunity to sing “Love came down at Christmas”.
Now, as we look to February I am reminded that the
14th is St Valentine’s Day – and once again we are
celebrating love. I suppose many of us are thinking of
the love between two people, which is something to
celebrate. My parents got married on February 14th,
so it was a very special day for them.
We went into the supermarket the other day, and
saw lots of Valentine’s cards for sale, and suggestions
of gifts for that special someone. Some of the cards
were, in my eyes at least, quite sentimental and
gushing. However, there is nothing sentimental
about true love. Many a child, and adult, has said
“You can’t love me if you won’t let me do or give me
what I want.” It can be very hard to say “No”, or to say
something which is honest even if it’s not necessarily
what the other person wants to hear. We sometimes
use the phrase “tough love” to remind us that it isn’t
always easy to love someone else, or bring children
up to know right and wrong.
I quoted the first line of a carol “Love came down at
Christmas”, but we see what that love cost on Good
Friday and then Easter morning – that’s the greatest,
and the toughest, love of all. As we reflect on the
love we have for each other, and celebrate it, let’s
remember it’s a reflection of the love God has for us.
Before long the Campingland evening talks will
begin for this year. These are for EVERYONE not
just Campingland patients. We organise speakers
on subjects relating to health and medical
problems which are of interest to all, as well as
providing useful information to the benefit of
many people. In most cases these issues relate to
someone within most family and friends groups.
Thus are well worth the attending, ( if only for
the refreshments and chat afterwards)!!
For all you quizzers - there is a quiz night
on February 15th 2018 at 7.30PM in the
of wine for the winners and wooden spoons for
the ‘tail end Charlies’!!
Entry is £2 per person and teams: please book in
at the Reception, Campingland Surgery. All are
