FAMILY READING CLUB - THROUGH-MARCH 3 RD
This six-week program is designed to encourage families to read,
learn and have fun together. Families participate in the program
by reading books and completing optional “challenges” that can
be done at home. All Fort Bend County families are eligible to
participate. Families who complete the program by reading 36
books - 6 books per week - are eligible to receive a book bag for
the family and will have their named entered into a drawing for a
$50 dining gift card, donated by the Friends of the Library. Each
branch library will have a drawing for the gift card on March 5 th . A
single registration is required for each participating family. An adult
(parent or guardian) is asked to register the family online by going
to the library’s website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us) and clicking on the
“Family Reading Club Sign-Up” image. Families may also register
at one of the libraries in the Fort Bend County library system. Upon
registering, families will then have their own online page on which
to record their books or reading time. There is no charge to join
the Family Reading Club. The program is sponsored by Fort Bend
County Libraries and the Friends of the Library organizations that
support the county library system.

SPECIAL EVENTS
• Income-Tax-Preparation Assistance - Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays
through April 17th, 10 AM-1 PM. Representatives from the AARP will
provide free income-tax-preparation assistance for low-income taxpayers.
Patrons should bring the following information to the session
if possible: photo ID; Social Security card(s) for self, spouse and all
dependents; last year’s tax return; W-2, 1099s and any other compensation
received in 2017; unemployment compensation statements;
and any other documents that are necessary to complete your return.
This service is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served
basis. Income-tax forms will no longer be available at the libraries, but
patrons may use the libraries’ computers and printers to download and
print out the forms from the IRS website, www.irs.gov, during regular
library hours. A library card is needed to use the printers and the cost
to print is 10¢ per black-and-white page.
• Make Your Own Valentine Card - Saturday, February 3rd, 10:30 AM-
12:30 PM, Room 2A. Get tips and ideas from fellow crafters and create
Valentine’s Day cards that will impress your friends and loved ones.
Materials will be provided. Those attending the class should be over the
age of 14. Materials for this program were provided through the generous
support of the Friends of George Memorial Library organization.
• Buffalo Soldiers - Saturday, February 10th, 10:30 AM, Meeting Room.
Re-enactors from Texas Parks & Wildlife will portray buffalo soldiers,
sharing stories of what life was like on the Texas frontier. Military artifacts,
interactive activities and the chance to dress up like a buffalo
soldier make this program fun for the whole family.
• Resumé Workshop - Tuesday, February 13th, 2 PM, Computer Lab.
Learn the basics of putting together a resumé. Those attending this
informal program will receive one-one-one help formatting a resumé.
For assistance on a pre-existing resumé, please have a digital copy
available on a USB flashdrive, saved to the cloud or have access to it
via email. Registration required.
• Story Spinners Writing Club - Thursday, February 15th, 5:30-8 PM,
Room 2C. From beginning blogger to published novelist, writers of
all genres and experience levels are welcome to write, share, learn,
support, network and critique each other’s work. Writing prompts,
brainteasers and brief exercises will be available to ignite the imaginations
of any and all wordsmiths who wish to hone their craft.
• NEW! Cookin’ the Books” Book Club - 7 PM, Room 2C. This new month-
