Troop, has opening for 2 nd grade girls. We welcome new to<br />

GS, returning & existing 2 nd grade Girl Scouts. Meetings: Every<br />

Scout It Out And Come<br />

Join Cub Scouts With Pack 353!<br />

Field trips. Camping. Racing.<br />

Fitness. Friendship.<br />

Pack 353 has been keeping the Scout spirit alive since 1982.<br />

With over 60 scouts and 20 dynamic leaders, we are gearing<br />

up for a fun-filled year with a wide variety of activities<br />

that help boys develop leadership skills, build character,<br />

strengthen communication skills and demonstrate good<br />

citizenship.<br />

Boys entering first through fifth grades are welcome to join us anytime throughout the year. If you would like more information on joining Cub Scouts<br />

Homeschool Pack 164<br />

Cub Scouts is a fun way to teach boys about character, respect, responsibility and many other traits. Pack 164 is a Christian, home school Cub Scout<br />

Pack that services the Greater West Houston/Katy area. Pack 164 promotes service to God, to country and to others. If you are interested and your son<br />

Gardening Tips For <strong>February</strong><br />

FLOWERS<br />

• Plants to set: Alyssum, Calendula, Canterbury Bells, Carnations,<br />

Columbine, Cornflower, Daisies, Delphinium, Hollyhock, Larkspur,<br />

Lobelia, Nicotiana, Pansy, Petunia, Phlox (Louisiana), Shrimp Plant,<br />

Snapdragon, Stock and Verbena.<br />

VEGETABLES<br />

• Plant beets, broccoli (plants), brussel sprouts (plants), cabbage (plants),<br />

carrots, cauliflower (plants), celery, chinese cabbage (plants), chives<br />

collards (plants), endive, kale, lettuce (leaf and head), mustard, onions<br />

(plants), parsley, garden peas, radishes, rutabagas, spinach, tomato<br />

(seeds) and turnips.<br />

TREES AND SHRUBS<br />

• Finish all transplanting, get everything in the ground for a good spring<br />

spurt of growth. Transplant balled and burlap, container-grown, bareroot<br />

deciduous evergreen trees, shrubs, roses and vines while still<br />

dormant.<br />

• Finish pruning roses. Weed and cultivate lightly all beds. Replenish<br />

mulch as needed.<br />

• Control early spring insects like thrips on glads and aphids on young<br />

tender growth. Spray with Malathion, Diazinon or Orthene.<br />

• At the end of <strong>February</strong>: peach, apple and pear fruit must be thinned to<br />

insure quality production at harvest.<br />

• Give groundcovers a haircut. They will spread faster.<br />

• Divide daylilies, daisies and other perennials now.<br />
