This project was incredibly involved.
Furnish had responsibility for many
different areas including provision of
space planning, interior design and
source, as well as the design and
fabrication of bespoke elements.
The design of the staircase was a
pleasure to produce.
The building was once a cooper’s
factory where barrels were made
and stored. We decided on a spiral
staircase taking inspiration from a
classic barrel. The structure features
horizontal cladding aping a barrel’s
construction, made from oak and
clad in cedar. A black iron handrail
indicative of the barrel’s hoops
was expertly shaped on site by
a local blacksmith.
