MAJORCA’S OTHER SIDE...
Palma
There’s so much to see and do in the
islands capital we recommend a minimum
of 3 days. It’s sadly often overlooked as a
city break but it’s perfect because of the
short flight from regional airports across
the UK. The history and architecture are
fantastic, as are the shops, restaurants
and bars (a cocktail in Abaca is a must,
pictured above). You’ll be transported
to ancient Palma and be treated to a
concoction created from the freshest of
local ingredients.
The Sant Francesc hotel is one of our
favourites in the city, a real gem and we
have a good relationship with the team
who look after our clients very well indeed!
Our favourite coffee stop is Cappuccino
Grand Café (expect long queues!) – a Hotel
Cappuccino is opening in March and will
no doubt be popular.
The cathedral was a highlight, as is the
train journey from Palma to Soller which
is a perfect day out from the city.
Do as the locals do
We recommend you venture further away
from the beach or harbour front and find
what little local gems are hiding in the side
streets. The restaurants are usually a lot
more reasonable and the quality of the
food is very good – always a good sign if
it’s full of locals, plus you’ll get a true feel
for the area! Our top restaurant tip would
be Vintage Sabra Catalina, have a look
indoors at the fun decor!
Go Exploring
Hire a car and discover picture postcard
perfect little inland towns such as
Valldemossa, Deia and Pollenca. They’re
all easily reached and offer a completely
different (and true) experience of Majorca.
Popular with all ages is the old fashioned
tram from Soller to Port de Soller as
Kirsty and her daughter found out. It’s a
beautiful way of arriving into the port area
as you travel along the waterside, from
the traditional streets of the town down
to the open countryside with colourful
orange groves and stunning backdrop of
the Tramuntana mountains.
Get active
Soller, Port de Soller and Deia are all
perfectly situated to enjoy the magnificent
Tramuntana mountains, making the
resorts extremely popular with mountain
bikers and hikers. Various guided tours
and routes are available, and the early and
late summer months are usually perfect
weather conditions for both activities.
Learn about the destination
Nuria visited a local olive oil factory in
Pollenca, whilst Kirsty chatted with a
local artist in Deia and found out about
what inspires his work in the area, all
experiences we can pre-book for you.
