With the current climate in the world over the last many years,
a familiar phrase is heard over and over: “See something, say
something.” In the context in which it was coined, this slogan
is used to heighten awareness that we need to alert others if we
suspect danger. However, I think the phrase can take on a new
meaning by adding one statement: “Do something.” My
suggestion is, “See something, say something, do something.”
Without the action of doing, you are leaving the result or
resolution up to someone else.
My challenge to Sisterhood members during these cold winter
months is, get involved, join a committee, make a suggestion,
and be the person to see that idea to completion. It is easy to
look back at the work that others have done and see what
should have been done differently. We welcome the “see
something, say something,” but what
Sisterhood really needs is involvement.
Without the contributions by those who
are suggesting ideas, we are stuck with
only “see something, say something.”
The most valuable volunteering is when you also “do something.” There are
many ways to take the first step. Email me at smileyctrs@comcast.net or call
me at 856-466-8079. I hope to hear from you soon.
December & January Thank Yous!
December and January have been busy with
events, starting off with the Annual Hannukah
Bazaar and Craft Show. Our deepest gratitude
goes to our chairs, Caryn Polin and Debora
Borenstein, who organized an excellent craft
show with more than 70 vendors. Thank you
also to the Spinning Dreidel Café chairs,
Michele Speier and Andrea Finkel, and the
Maccabi Mart chairs, D.J. Whitley and Wendy
Isaacs. This event is a huge undertaking, and
we thank all the committee members and all the
volunteers who made this day run so smoothly.
Thank you to Janet Cohen and her committee
for a fun and beautiful Hanukkah party,
complete with a festive gift swap. Our first-ever
Kugel Kook-Off was a tasty treat for everyone
thanks to our chairs, Sheila Stern, Renee Siegel
and Betsy Morgenstern, and the committee
volunteers. Our third book club meeting of the
year, with a fabulous discussion and snacks,
was held at Sandy Gordon’s home. Thank you.
