Hashish in North Arabian Sea

KARACHI: The 22 million children in the country
have never gone to school, which was highly alarming

Foolproof security ordered for
PSL cricket match in Karachi
KARACHI: Inspector
General of Police (IGP)
Sindh AD Khowaja on
Wednesday chaired a meeting
regarding a security
plan for Pakistan Super
League (PSL) cricket
match to be played at
Karachi’s National
Stadium in March.

enforcement agencies and
other firms were also present
at his office, where
Khowaja directed the
police officials to ensure all
security arrangements for
PSL matches.
IGP asked DIG East to
get in touch with additional
IGP Special Branch and
review full audit of the
security system for the PSL
Cricket match and prepare
a report in this regard, so as
to ensure foolproof security
plan at any cost.
He said that special
focus should be kept on the
international standard in
security plan and contact
with Law enforcement
agencies (LEAs) and
Rangers must be included
in the plan.

made extraordinary in residential
areas around the
stadium and parking stickers
would be provided to
VIPs.

KARACHI: Presence of
uncollected litter and
garbage on the Lyari
Expressway irks commuters,
while pedestrian movement
on this fast track road in a
serious threat to human lives,
as grave pileups could occur
anytime due to this dangerous
pedestrian movement.
The beginning of the
LEW at Suhrab Goth depicts
a sorry picture on heaps of
dirt, litter and garbage. The
approach road to the LEW is
encroached upon by vendors
and clogged due to illegal
parking of vehicles, traffic
flow in wrong direction and
presence of illegal bus, taxi
and rickshaw stands. The
concerned agencies have
failed to keep this area clean
and free from encroachments.
There are several slum
areas running along the
LEW route and the expressway
in not properly fenced in
these areas. Resultantly,
men, women and children,
mostly street people, rig
pickers and drug addicts are
found freely moving on the
LEW, causing grave threat
not only for their own lives,
but also for the lives of drivers
and commuters.
The National Highway
Authority (NHA) that collects
millions of rupees as
toll from this expressway
has so far failed to secure
this fast track from pedestrian
movement by erecting
protective fence along it
near slum areas.
Thousands of motorists
use the LEW daily and their
lives are in danger as dangerous
pedestrian movement
on it may result into a
serious accident and pileup
any time.

Council of ICMA Pakistan in its
386th meeting elected Mr. Zia ul
Mustafa Awan as the President
for the period of 2018-20. Mr. Zia

Dr. Shaikh lamented the
situation that several leading
private and public sector
educational institutions had

City project to establish
campuses there but they
never thought to come up
with any plan for socio-economic

of under-privileged
local communities living in
nearby villages.
He said that SMIU
being a socially responsible
university would set a
good precedent for all
such academic institutions,
which were aiming
to launch their ventures at
the proposed site of
Education City off
Karachi.

Javed Jabbar said that corporate
entities should discharge
their social obligations
in the most cautious
manner in order to ensure
sustainable development
of the less-privileged sections
of the society.
He said that people living
below poverty line,
out-of-school children,
highly inadequate number
of taxpaying citizens, and
less prevalence of family
planning techniques were
some of the alarming
socio-economic issues that
should be resolved on an
urgent basis.
