BE AWARE OF A FOUR-LINE ATTACK
The Kitchener Rangers are a deep team. Any line
they put on the ice is capable of scoring goals.
The Rangers have ten players that have scored
10 or more goals. Nine of those players are
forwards, enough to make up three full lines. For
the Frontenacs defenders, it doesn’t matter what
line they are matched up against, they have to
play defensively against every line like it is the top
line. There is no chance to take a shift off in the
defensive zone because the Rangers can make
you pay from the top of their line-up to the bottom.
NEVER COUNT THEM OUT
Having so many guys that put the puck in the
net also keeps the Rangers in most games.
The Hamilton Bulldogs found that out the
hard way last weekend. Kitchener was trailing
3-0 midway through the game and were able
to come back and win 4-3. If Kingston is
able to jump out to a big lead, they have to
continue to apply pressure. Once Kitchener
gets momentum on their side, it isn’t an easy
thing to get back and they can erase a big
lead in a short time. Never take a lead for
granted against the Rangers, because if you
do, it will eventually be gone.
USE SIZE AS AN ADVANTAGE
The Kingston Frontenacs have a much larger forward group than the Kitchener Rangers. Kitchener
has only five forwards that are six feet or above and 200 lbs. or more. Kingston, on the other hand, has
ten forwards over six feet tall and seven over 200 lbs. This gives the Kingston forwards an advantage
both with and without the puck. While on the forecheck, they can be physical and separate the puck
from the player to create turnovers. While on offense they can use their bodies to shield the puck
and create scoring chances, as well as establish position in front of the net. Size and strength can be
a huge advantage if used properly, and Kingston has plenty to spare. - KF
