Police: Speeding leads
to discovery of warrants
Alexus K.M. Zepeda, 21,
of 562 E. Cass St. in Joliet,
was arrested Jan. 31 on two
outstanding warrants.
According to police reports,
an officer on patrol
traveling westbound in the
10300 block of West 191st
Street observed a vehicle
traveling eastbound at what
appeared to be a high rate
of speed. Prior to pulling
the vehicle over, the officer
ran a check on the vehicle’s
registration, where it was
discovered that the registered
owner, identified as
Zepeda, had two outstanding
in-state warrants and
the vehicle’s registration
was expired.
The officer then initiated
a traffic stop and, reportedly,
found a male subject
in the driver’s seat and
Zepeda in the passenger
seat. The driver was able to
provide his driver’s license
and proof of insurance,
both reportedly valid, and
was released with a verbal
warning for speeding and
driving with an expired
registration. Zepeda was
placed under arrest and
later transferred to Will
County Adult Correctional
Facility.

Yunker Farm Community Garden
plot registration approaching

Mokena Community
Park District will begin
accepting 2018 garden plot
reservations for the Yunker
Farm Community Gardens
on March 3 from 9–11
a.m. at the Administration
Center, 10925 LaPorte
Road. Garden plots are $25
for residents per 14-foot
by 12-foot plot. Proof of
residency will be required.
Individuals may reserve
one plot until March 12, at
which time additional plots
may be rented if available.
Non-resident plot rental
is $40 per plot and will
open on March 19, if spots
are available. For more
