Trip will depart 8 a.m. Sunday May 20 from the Founders Community Center, 140 Oak St., Frankfort. Join the Frankfort Park District for a trip to the coastal city of Virginia Beach and experience a rich array of history and entertainment on this bus tour. Stroll along or relax on the famous Virginia Beach Boardwalk and see where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. The group will visit Colonial Williamsburg, Norfolk, the flagship Yankee Candle Village, Virginia Beach Aquarium and Marine Science Center. Join the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce for a Ribbon Cutting/Reception to celebrate the opening of Hart Wellness Center in Frankfort. Citizens Police Academy 7-9:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning March 1, Frankfort Police Department, 20602 Lincoln-Way Lane, Frankfort. The Citizens Police Academy is an program open to residents that gives an inside look at how police departments and the criminal justice system work. This program will include a tour of Will County Jail, Taser Demonstration, K-9 Demonstration, Active Shooter Response Presentation, and more. The class meets every Thursday night from March 1-May 17. Join the Frankfort Park District for the Clover Hunt to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Prizes will be given to those children who find the special clovers. Registration is not required, just show up for the hunt. This event will be held rain or shine, and there is no cost. MONDAY Leprechaun Traps 2-3 p.m. and 4-5 p.m. Monday, March 5, Frankfort Public Library, 21119 S. Pfeiffer Road, Frankfort. St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, so put your imagination and engineering skills to work and come construct leprechaun traps. Legend says that if you catch a leprechaun, he will give you his pot of gold, but beware — these little pixies aren’t so easy to capture. Note: Bring a box. This one-day program includes Rules of the Road (10–11:30 a.m.); vision screening (10 a.m.–2 p.m.); mobile drivers facility (10 a.m.-2 p.m.). There will be a charge for the licenses and ID Card. At the mobile drivers facility a person can obtain a new or renew the Illinois identification card, renew a driver’s license (must be under 75 years old, no road test given) and register to vote. NOTE: To apply for or renew a Driver’s License, you must provide acceptable identification to verify your name, date of birth, Illinois residence, social security number and signature. ONGOING Preschool Registration Registration takes place at the Founders Community Center, 140 Oak St., Frankfort. All Frankfort Park District preschool programs run from September 2018 to May 2019. A copy of the child’s birth certificate is required at the time of registration for new participants. All registrations must be done in person. A $50 nonrefundable registration fee is due at the time of registration. If tuition is paid in full between May 1 and July 16, there will be a 10% discount for the entire year. To meet its mission of enriching and enhancing musical opportunities in the community, Lincoln-Way Area Chorale will be awarding a scholarship to one senior student from each of the Lincoln-Way High Schools. The student must be planning on majoring in vocal performance, vocal education, or musical theater in the fall semester of 2018. Qualifying students should see their school counselor or music teacher for the application.
