10 Questions
with Taylor Wright
Taylor Wright is a junior on
the Lincoln-Way East girls
track and field team.
How’d you get started
in track and field?
I started track and field
with the Aurora Flyers Track
Club when I was living with
my aunt and uncle over the
summer when I was 8. Then,
I stopped for awhile because
I really wasn’t good
at it. And then middle school
came and I was good, and
my mom put me back in, and
I’ve been doing it ever since
sixth grade started.
What’s your favorite
memory of the sport so
far?
My favorite memory has
to be [at] state last year, after
the 4x4 when we won. Definitely
that.
What’s your spirit
animal?
I would have to say a
cheetah because cheetahs
are known to be fast, but
they’re also known to be
tough, and I’ve been known
to be a strong and tough person,
too.
What would be the first
thing you’d buy if you
won the lottery?
A house. I’m in love with
homes, so it would probably
be my dream home …
in Texas or Florida. I do not
like the cold.
What event would you
like to see added to
track and field?
It would be — I know we
do 300s [hurdles] in practice,
but there’s not really
an event just 300 hurdles,
so I would add 300s just because
400s are a killer, but
300s aren’t really killer. So,
I wouldn’t hate the 300s. It
would probably be my favorite
event.
What one thing do you
own that you couldn’t
live without?
I guess my phone. That
everything: how I contact
people and my mom, and
I’ve gone a couple days
without my phone and it’s
been very difficult.
What’s your ideal postmeet
meal?
For dinner, I don’t really
have a post-meet meal. I
always do a protein shake.
That’s what I always do after
a workout or a meet. But really,
I just go home and eat
whatever.
Do you have any plans
for college?
Yes. I do want to want to
run in college. I haven’t chosen
a school, but I’ve been
looking at schools and my
big ideal is to be somewhere
warm, but it’s also wherever
schools will look at me.
What’s the hardest part
of the sport for you?
Being in the right mindset.
It’s easy to go out to
practice and run your hardest,
but the challenge is to
having the mindset. If your

mindset’s not right, then you
won’t have a good race and
it won’t show. I’ve learned
that so many times, and it’s
really hard to actually prepare
myself mentally. But I
think I’ve learned to overcome
that in my high school
years. So, I think everyday
I’m getting better at being
more positive, being able to
go out and run.
Is there a life lesson
you’ve learned from the
sport?
A big one is I’ve learned
that, even in school, when it
gets hard I just stop and quit.
And I’ve realized I’ve done
that sometimes in track, and
I can’t do that. I used to say,
“I only do it in this thing
or that thing. I don’t do it
outside.” … I’ve learned to
focus on not doing that because
i cannot give up.
