"Then, to have Dominic have that success and win state was just great. "We will start back up with our Thunderbird [club] wrestling camp in April for eight weeks. We start back up the grade school season toward the end of November [Nov. 26]. We have some guys that wrestle club, but most of them want to wrestle for the community, and that's what they do." But it wasn’t to be. Still, the Griffins will always remember this season, which marked the first time they won a regional title and also registered back-to-back 20-win seasons after never winning 20 games in their first 15 years. That was a complete turnaround from a 7-19 campaign just two years ago. “There’s two things,” Kolimas stressed about this group. “First, we’ve known these guys since floor checking, blocking shots and staying disciplined and that seemed to work out well for us.” Despite falling short of a third straight appearance in the state title game at the United Center, the Celtics still finished with a strong post-season run after losing to Benet in the Kennedy Cup. “That was tough, but they fourth grade, so this [team] is home-grown. These kids have been developing their skills for a long time with us, and we’re extremely proud of how far they’ve come. “Secondly, Roger Bannister just passed away, so we talked about that. He broke the 4-minute mile, remember that? After he broke the 4-minute mile, great things happened and a lot of people ran 4-minute miles. So we’re hoping that this opens the door for us, and we continue to have success in our basketball program.” Sam Coverick, Danny Sajewski, and Desmond Shelton were also seniors on the team. But Buggemi, Parduhn, and Shafer came back and have played well the last few weeks,” Iaciancio said. “If you go back eight or nine years ago, this would’ve been a great finish. Expectations are a little higher now, but I think we realize we’re not going to win every time, but getting to the Elite Eight year after year after year is a sign of a successful program.” were all there for the past three years and will never forget it. “There’s so much,” Parduhn said of what he will remember. “Our trip down to Teutopolis, where we had so much fun. Winning the regional and coach Kolimas dancing in the locker room afterward. It’s sad that I won’t see the team at practice [anymore], but I made great friends and had a great time.” Shafer agreed. “Right now we’re disappointed,” he said. “But when we look back, we have accomplished so much. It’s awesome. Many of us have been playing together since grade school. It’s been a great ride with these guys and I love all of them.
