2018 – LAKESIDE’S INTERNATIONALCHILDREN’S<br />

THEATREAND DANCEFESITVAL<br />

Nottingham Lakeside Arts’ international festival of theatre and dance for<br />

children is one of the highlights of Nottingham’s cultural scene. Taking<br />

place each year during summer half term, the week-long festival takes<br />

place across many of Lakeside’s spaces –from the theatre toHighfields<br />

Park –with much of the festival being free to low cost.<br />

This year’s festival runs from Monday 28May–Sunday 3June, 12noon-<br />

5pm. Open for the duration will be what many consider to be the Wheee!<br />

highlight. Year on year Nottingham’s own Architects of Air have brought<br />

their spectacular Luminarium to Wheee! –with many thousands of<br />

families enjoying these extraordinary structures. Every year sees anew<br />

Luminarium erected in Highfields Park. Each one an intriguing shape,<br />

with interiors that are brilliantly iridescent and amaze ofdazzling and<br />

unexpected spaces.<br />

In addition to the Luminarium, there’s Where’s Jamie? anexhibition<br />

allowing young minds to discover the real life locations that became part<br />

of the BBC’s premier football<br />

drama –Jamie Johnson;<br />

high quality theatre shows<br />

for all the family; and the<br />

ever-popular Free Family<br />

Weekend in the park, which<br />

The Free Family Weekend will see outdoor<br />

theatre and dance shows and alarge array of<br />

arts and craft activities for all ages taking place<br />

across east end of Highfields Park –adjacent to<br />

Lakeside Arts. The full programme is yet tobe<br />

announced but it will run from 12noon until 5pm<br />

on both days. Turn up en masse, bring apicnic<br />

and spend aday (or the whole weekend) enjoying fabulous productions,<br />

get stuck in with arts and crafts and learn all about nature –and all for<br />

free! Afull programme for the Wheee! Family Weekend will be available<br />

in April.<br />
