ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT Shopping plazas Brevard County offers a variety of shopping plazas and malls to suit every consumer taste and style. The Avenue Viera: A 415,000-squarefoot, open-air pedestrian-friendly development just west of Interstate 95, off Lake Andrew Drive in Viera, includes World of Beer, Anne Taylor Loft, Bed Bath & Beyond, Bonefish Grill, Belk, Books-A-Million, Old Navy, Carmike Cinemas, The Melting Pot, Michael’s, World Market, and more, 321-634-5390; viera.shoptheavenue.com. Viera MarketPlace includes Kohl’s, Office Depot and Sports Authority. South of The Avenue are the Shoppes at Lake Andrew, a Walmart Supercenter and a Super Target. Other nearby stores are in the Viera Shops development, which includes an ULTA Beauty store, a Genna Jewelers shop, a Subway, and a TJ Maxx/Home Goods store. Babcock Street: Just north of Hibiscus Boulevard is a renovated shopping area built in 1959. The landscaped strip center on Babcock’s east side is known as the Melbourne Shopping Center, which includes Big Lots, Publix, Dollar Tree, several discount apparel outlets, restaurants and small shops. A Sears store, sit-down restaurants, fast-food establishments and a variety of small shops are also along Babcock. Bayside Lakes Shopping Center: In Palm Bay off of Bayside Lakes Boulevard southeast, the plaza offers several restaurants, including Soprano’s Pizzeria and Mediterranean Grill. Also a Publix. Cocoa Beach: In the downtown area, just north of the Minutemen Causeway, lies Cottage Row military houses from the 1940s and ’50s that have been converted into quaint shops, salons and restaurants. Near SR 520 and A1A is Ron Jon Surf Shop, the 24-hour icon of beach attire. Cocoa Village: Historic downtown Cocoa features a shopper-friendly, casual walkway featuring several independent venues. Many of the shops specialize in arts, unique gifts, crafts, galleries, gourmet foods, antiques and clothing. The village also includes restaurants that range from the casual (Ossorio, Ryan’s Pizza, Pub Americana, Murdock’s) to fine dining (Black Tulip, Café Margaux) as well as lounges; some offer live music. Arts, crafts and other shows frequently take place on its streets and concerts are given in Riverfront Park and the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse offers live theater and other cultural events. Crossroads Marketplace: This retail development is on State Road 405, just south of State Road 50 and features more than 200,000 square feet of retail space. There are several major stores at the plaza, including Target. Other stores include Kay Jewelers, Marshalls and Petco. Eau Gallie: The Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne, on the riverfront east of U.S. 1 and north of the Eau Gallie Causeway to The Avenue Viera is a 415,000-square-foot, open-air shopping center. TIM SHORTT/FLORIDA TODAY south of Parkway, features a number of art galleries ranging from the avant garde to the post-modern. There also are bookstores, antique shops and restaurants. Fifth Avenue: A boardwalk-style walkway sits along the Atlantic Ocean in Indialantic and U.S. 192. It is lined with shops, including the famed Longboard House; as well as fine dining (Islands Fish Grill, Scott’s On Fifth), world (Around the World, Nini’s Cuban, Skewers) and informal American (Copperhead Tavern, Beachside Café, Cold Stone Creamery) cuisines, not to mention a Starbucks. Florida Marketplace: An office and professional complex, the Marketplace at 1396 Babcock St. in Melbourne includes some retail stores, 321-956-2100. Hammock Landing: The 460,000-squarefoot shopping center at 205 Palm Bay Road near Interstate 95 in West Melbourne is the county’s newest. It has more than 30 stores, including Ulta Beauty, Michael’s Arts and Crafts, Kohl’s, Shoe Carnival, hhgregg, Marshall’s and Target. Restaurants include Pollo Tropical, Buffalo Wild Wings, Five Guys Burgers, and Longhorn Steakhouse; hammocklandingfl.com. Historic Downtown Melbourne: The area along New Haven and Strawbridge avenues is home to specialty shops and boutiques, as well as restaurants, cafes and lounges with everything from burgers on rolls baked on-site (the Burger Place) to the innovative, upscale (Crush XI) and bakeries that include Jacqueline’s, where breads and pastries are prepared by Cordon Bleu de Paris chefs. It also is where Brevard has holiday parades and celebrates the likes of Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day (thanks to Meg O’Malley’s) and spends its free time (the Mansion, Matt’s Tropical Grill, Debauchery). The Henegar Center for the Performing Arts, which offers production of major plays, is there, as the more intimate Melbourne Civic Theatre. Call 321-724-1741 or visit downtownmelbourne.com. Indian Harbour Beach: Three large shopping centers vie for attention along east Eau Gallie Causeway. You’ll find such locations as Bealls, Publix and Wal-Mart, in addition to specialty shops and restaurants. Melbourne: The Melbourne Square mall on U.S. 192 is anchored by Dillard’s North and South, Macy’s, JC Penney and Dick’s Sporting Goods, 321-727-2000; simon.com or westmelbourne.org. Stores line the 192 route from U.S. 1 to I-95, such as Target, Barnes & Noble, Ross, Pier 1 Imports, Best Buy, PetSmart, Burlington, and Sam’s Club. Merritt Square Mall: More than 100 stores are enclosed on State Road 520. It is anchored by Macy’s, Dillard’s, Sears and JC Penney, and includes a large theater, 321-452-3270; merrittsquaremall.com. Palm Bay West Regional Shopping Center: This strip mall covers 265,000 square feet at Minton and Malabar roads. Stores include Winn-Dixie, Bealls and Ace Hardware. Pineda Landings: Located at Wickham Road and Jordan Blass Drive in Melbourne, the strip mall includes The Fresh Market, La Moda boutique, Jersey Mike’s and a Zaxby’s out front. Renningers Super Flea & Farmers Market: Melbourne’s largest open-air attraction is situated on 20 acres, with more than 900 booths of new and used merchandise, and special events on weekends. Indian River Antique Mall: More than 100 dealers are in this 20,000-square-foot mall, filled with historical curiosities and designed for leisurely shopping. Open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays at 1433 S. Babcock Street in Melbourne. Call 321-759-6255 or go to indianriverantiquemall.com. Satellite Beach Atlantic Plaza: Shopping plaza has specialty shops, consumer service businesses and a movie theater, Satellite Beach Cinemas. Includes an Ace Hardware, Subway, Dollar General and a Publix supermarket. Searstown Mall: This Titusville mall contains Sears and a variety of specialty shops and services, as well as a movie theater, 321-269-5921. Space Coast Flea Market: Vendors in this market sell used, discounted and new items and produce, 5605 N. U.S. 1, Frontenac, south of Port St. John. Open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. 321-631-0241. Titus Landing: The new mall on U.S. 1 in Titusville, is anchored on the east end by Hobby Lobby. Other tenants include a Beall’s, Rue 21, Dunkin’ Donuts, Pet Supermarket, Hair Cuttery, Firehouse Subs and an Epic Theater.
