ServingOUR County How did your career begin in law enforcement? I started my career at the Madison Police Department in 1996. I enjoyed working at Madison PD, and I thank Chief Gene Waldrop for giving me the opportunity to start my career in law enforcement. In 2001, I was offered a job at the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. I had friends that worked there and they told me it was a great place to work. Working with the sheriff’s department gives you a larger area to cover, and there are some great people that work here. How long have you been with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office? 16 years Tell us about your family. I have a wife and 13 year-old daughter. What is the toughest thing you have experienced in your job? When I was on the SWAT Team, we had a call out in the north part of the county where three of our SWAT Team members had been shot. Share some things you enjoy doing in your spare time. Spending time with my family, watching my daughter run track, and watching college football. What are three things on your bucket list? Finish my career with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, go to Alaska, and see my daughter graduate college. Where do you see yourself ten years from now? Retired and spending time with my family. If you could give one piece of advice to a young person, what would it be? Treat everyone with respect and stay away from drugs. NARCOTICS Trey Curtis MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT Who is someone you admire and why? Eddie Belvedresi—retired chief deputy with the Madison County S.O. Chief Belvedresi gave me the opportunity to work at the best sheriff’s department in the state of Mississippi. He was always someone you could talk to during good times and bad. If you messed up, he would chew you out, then would ask you to go to lunch. What is a favorite childhood memory? Graduating high school and then going into the United States Marine Corp. What is the biggest mistake you think young people make today? Trusting their friends, experimenting with drugs, and not listening to their parents. What is your favorite thing about the City of Madison? It is a great city to raise a family. Hometown madison • 17
