Today Musee has fifty full-time employees and will add more
as product lines expand. “We are adding new products to our line,
including beautiful soy candles and cold-pressed bath soaps. We
try to think out of the box and look for ways to help people and
treat them with dignity,” asserts Pickering.
“It’s the difference between minimum wage and paying a fair
wage. Everyone at Musee has a very important role. We can’t do
what we do without each person doing their specific job. These
women work in a loving environment and that helps create more
stability in their lives. It makes them flourish as individuals.
I believe that work creates dignity, and that working with our
hands helps care for our soul. I am passionate about the hands that
make our products,” she added.
Pickering has seen the difference it makes in the lives of each
individual. “Some have gotten their children back. Others have
been able to get a dependable vehicle, which gives them more
freedom. And others have bought a home for the first time ever.”
The company has grown with no marketing or advertising.
“It’s been a slow, organic growth through word-of-mouth and
trips to market. A lot of people have walked alongside me to help
it grow.” And the company will continue to grow as it rolls out
even more product lines down the road. “All of our products will
always be handmade. Our mission is to expand our line and hire
more people.”
