It has been particularly gratifying to note that a number of once empty storefronts have been repurposed into thriving new businesses with more on the horizon. We pridefully acknowledge that at present Northfield has 100% occupancy rate! A big thank you to our local entrepreneurs willing to take the plunge to invest in our communities, but also to our neighbors and residents who continue to show their commitment to shopping small and supporting our local merchants, professional establishments and non-profit organizations. This past year brought many opportunities to celebrate what makes Winnetka and Northfield special. We are fortunate to have two vibrant and thriving communities offering a variety of events spanning culture, art, and entertainment. One of those events is Winnetka’s annual tree lighting. A holiday market featuring 18 local vendors was added this year. The Merchants bordered the sidewalks in Station Park, there was a visit from Santa and his helpers, free hot chocolate and cookies were passed out creating a magical and warm holiday experience for our local families. Another event, the Winnetka Farmers’ Market, found a new home at 510 Green Bay Road due to the addition of more tennis courts at the New Trier West campus. The new location is right across from the Elm Street train station in Winnetka’s central business district, creating a lively Saturday morning gathering space. The market will be open Saturdays, from 7:30 am - 12:30 pm, June 1 through October 19 (except June 22), rain or shine! This year, we will celebrate the third annual Winnetka Music Festival on June 21 and 22. It has been ranked the BEST Festival on the North Shore by Make It Better and 22nd Century Media. WMF brought music and family front and center into the heart of Winnetka, showcasing our best to visitors from near and far. Your Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce has not just been busy with these events but has been working with a dedicated group of consultants, moving steadily in the direction of optimizing our organization to more effectively meet the needs of our members and constituents in the community. We have tackled everything from a new organizational structure, including a streamlined leadership and robust committee framework, to fully restated by-laws and a revamped website. I hope this motivates those of you who have read this far to consider attending one or more of the many events during the year. In the meantime we wish you a year of happiness, health, prosperity and peace.
