Stagecoach Performing Arts Huntingdon 

Stagecoach Performing Arts Huntingdon are excited to be celebrating the 

30th Anniversary of Stagecoach Nationally and our Main School will be 

taking part in an exclusive performance of Beauty and the Beast Jnr next 

term. In addition our ‘Performance Troupe’ will be participating in a 

Guinness World Record attempt of Beauty and the Beast Jnr, on Sunday 1st 

July 2018 alongside other Stagecoach Schools. We are also very excited to 

be running a Summer Workshop this year based on Matilda and you don’t

Cambridgeshire teacher scoops award in 

Dragon’s Den backed National Business 

A hard-working teacher from Cambridgeshire came out on top to win the 

coveted title of Best Team Member at the recent Conference for the BBC’s 

Dragons’ Den backed business. 

Laura Dennis who teaches at theatre school Razzamataz Cambridge, was 

entered by her Principal Emma Louise Campbell, who runs the school, and 

beat off stiff competition from the other schools within the network. 

The Best Team Member Award was judged by West End star Jennifer 

Tierney, who is currently touring in Shrek and has been in a number of high 

profile shows including Wicked, Mamma Mia and Jerry Springer The Opera. 

Jennifer was blown away by the excellent quality of entries but Cambridge 

was crowned the winner due to Laura’s ability to adapt and assist in any 

given situation. 

“As a teacher, she is clearly adored by her students but as a team member, 

she has shown that she is willing to do anything she can to make the best of 

any situation for the students and the school,” said Jennifer. “Supporting her 

students from the class to performance shows her dedication and work ethic 

as not just a teacher but as a person of importance in her students’ lives.” 

EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA 

at West Lodge Farm Park 

Throughout the Easter school holidays, West Lodge Farm Park has lots of 

fun activities for you to enjoy in their Eggstravaganza! On Easter Friday,

The Bear’s Melody Lingers Longer 

When we move to music we are freely expressing the words we can't say. 

This is doubly so with young children who each day experience the world 

anew and must find a way to process their experiences. 

Just as taste, texture and colours aid child’s sensory development, so too 

does music. Turning soulful sounds into co-ordinated rhythmic movement is 

the basis for dance expression and a stepping-stone for developing aesthetic 

judgement. 

The beauty of and charm of rhyming songs aids vocabulary and early 

exposure to music enhances a child’s ability to learn to listen to both music 

and lyrics and appreciate how melody and rhythm dictate dance steps. 

Dancing is great for muscle development, core strength, stamina and 

balance.

dance classes have

created by 

composer, 

Eugene Kulikov, 

and work in tandem 

with the dances and 

story concepts to 

encourage the free 

association of 

ideas, which are so 

important to a 

child’s imagination 

and development. Eugene uses the full palette of orchestral sounds to 

compose creative arrangements in a variety of musical genres to encourage 

every young child to get up on their feet to dance! Be it the sound of a 

lyrical harp for dancing butterflies, a country harmonica tune for the busy 

farmer, a classical celesta melody for a tiptoeing fairy, the cheerful steel 

drums for a carnival parade, or the honky-tonk piano for quacking ducks – 

there’s something for everyone to have fun dancing and listening to with 

Melody Bear.

HELP US TO HELP THEM 

The Raptor Foundation is a Charity and a visitor attraction which is a 

fantastic day out for groups, particularly as it provides an opportunity to 

meet but also learn about a stunning array of Birds of Prey , Meerkats, 

Spiders, snakes and much more. The work of the Raptor Foundation and its 

dedicated team is quite amazing. It is a permanent home to over 180 birds, 

comprising of over 30 different species of eagles, hawks, falcons and owls 

and over 20 species of reptiles, invertebrates and Meerkats. 

Your visit to the centre not only helps for the care of those animals but 

behind the scenes The Raptor 

Foundation provides a 24 hour 

medical rescue service and 

rehabilitation facilities for injured 

raptors with the aim to returning 

them back to the wild. Last year 

we rescued over 140 native wild 

birds of prey, from little owls, 

tawny owl to peregrine falcons, 

buzzards and red kites, releasing 

many back to the wild where 

they were found.

A brand new adaptation of The Wind in the Willows is being created by 

Scott Ritchie Productions and KD Theatre Productions for an Easter tour 

which will visit the Maltings, Ely on 6 – 9 April 

It will be a playful take on the classic tale, featuring a professional cast of 

energetic performers, catchy new songs and an anarchic sense of humour 

that will entertain and delight the whole family! 

Scott Ritchie Productions & KD Theatre Productions have a proven track

The terrific Mr Toad will be played by Paul Cleveland who has been in 

musicals such as ‘Cats’ and recently appeared as Paul in ‘Absent Friends.’ 

(Pomegranate Theatre, Chesterfield). Rosie Coles, whose credits include 

Juliet in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Doctors’ for the BBC joins the cast as the 

playful Mole. Ratty will be played by Ross Townsend Green who has 

appeared in plays such as ‘The Importance Of Being Earnest.’ Completing 

the gang of four friends is Oliver Scott, who plays the warm-hearted, steady 

Badger. New comer, Oliver Tattersfield completes the cast in the crucial 

opposing role of Chief Weasel. 

The Wind in the Willows will play on 6 – 9 April at The Maltings, Ely. 

The show will last approximately 2 hours with an interval.

Linton Zoo Spring News 

Now is the perfect time for a visit! The zoo is 

buzzing with activity and there is so much to see 

and do with some fantastic new exhibits and the 

Spring time babies just around the corner!! Our 

zoo is in a beautiful woodland setting, it is the 

perfect place to get the family, especially children, 

connected to nature! As an outdoor attraction 

remember to check the weather forecast and come 

prepared – wrap up warm and bring boots and 

waterproof gear. 

Our Binturong have recently moved to a brandnew 

enclosure which, although still provides them 

with lots of places to climb about and explore, 

makes them much easier for our visitors to see. 

This large mammal from the forests of south-east 

Asia just has to be the original Gruffalo! The 

Binturong is a strange looking creature made up of 

all sorts of animal bits! At first it appears to be bear 

like often walking on its hind legs, then it has many 

cat-like characteristics too and this is where its 

other name of Bear cat has come from. 

Primarily a breeding centre for endangered 

species, Linton Zoo is home to some very exciting 

animals which include magnificent tigers, lions, 

snow leopard, tapirs, kangaroo, Eastern quoll, 

Mountain zebra, lemurs, giant tortoises, lots of 

birds and some unusual reptiles. 

There is a very exciting schedule of events over the 

school holidays and at weekends which our team 

have developed to get you much closer to some of 

our animals, whilst giving you more information 

about our conservation projects. Meet our 

Brazilian tapirs Thiago, Tiana and their new 

addition when the family are given their lunch at 

12 o’clock. And there is an opportunity to get very 

close to the red kangaroo and wallaby mob when 

the keepers give them their afternoon snack. Don’t 

miss the animal encounters where you will have a 

chance to touch some of our smaller zoo animals, 

every day there will be something different and 

may include snakes, lizards, owls, baby giant 

tortoises, guinea pigs, giant stick insects and other 

creepy crawlies!

couple of times and so that you don’t 

miss anything plan your outing 

before you come by checking our

As an extra treat and if you want a 

little more than just a zoo visit then

personal with our awesome giants 

and then go behind the scenes, learn 

how we care for our tortoise groups, 

including how we incubate the eggs, 

then meet some of the latest 

hatchlings! Or, if you’d rather hold 

hands with a lemur and help the 

keepers feed them then try one of 

our VIP lemur tours for an extra £10 

per person (best to book in advance 

to guarantee your place). 

The Zoo is open every day and with 

an admission fee of £9.00 for an adult and £6.50

Being physically active every day is important for the healthy growth and 

development of children of all ages. 

To maintain a basic level of health, children need to do at least 60 minutes 

of physical activity per day. This should range from moderate activity such as 

walking to school, scooting or playing in the playground to vigorous activity 

such as swimming, running and gymnastics.

It’s Showtime! 

It is important for dance students to have a platform to showcase their work 

and to gain experience in this element of their dance education - Dance is, 

after all a Performance Art! Opportunities to perform can be many and 

varied - from putting on a show for visiting grandparents at home, through 

school plays, to taking part in a village or town parade. If a dancer has a 

chance to perform in a theatre, this is an incredibly special opportunity and 

it is one which we value highly at Colours of Dance, and this is why we hold 

annual shows in theatres. We also have watching weeks and other 

performances too! A show is not only a great platform for students, it is the 

perfect chance for our teachers to shine by putting together fantastic 

choreography, costumes and music and helping their students to be the best 

they can be as part of a dance company. 

CENTRE THEATRE PLAYERS TO STAGE 

EASTER PANTOMIME 

All aboard the Jolly Roger as the St. Ives based Centre Theatre Players 

present the family pantomime TREASURE ISLAND AND THE CARIBBEAN 

PIRATES in the Burgess Hall of One Leisure St. Ives on April 13th – 15th. 

Join Long John Silver, Jim Hawkins, Sea Dog Billy, Blackbeard and many 

more on this swashbuckling adventure. Written by Daniel Bell and directed 

by Dick Chalkley this promises to be a very exciting journey with lots of fun 

and audience participation, a great way to spend a couple of hours during 

the Easter holiday. 

For the Players the principal roles will be played by Nick Thompson, 

Graham Lloyd, Tara Wilson and Simon Webb supported by Ed Martin, 

Samantha Clark and Matthew Wilson. Audiences are also invited to dress up 

as pirates with prizes given for the best costume at each performances.
