EHS Onstage presented The Legend
of Sleepy Hollow this month in the A.D.
Players Theatre on Westheimer Road in
an unprecedented Houston high school
performance.
Director Mr. Paul Revaz orchestrated
the off-campus production, a first in the
city.
“AD Players is a beautiful space. 450
seats, very well thought out and run
by some of the nicest and most helpful
people I’ve ever worked with.”
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is about
a man named Ichabod Crane who takes a
position of schoolmaster in the mysterious
city of Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod takes a
fancy to Katrina Van Tassel, the beautiful
daughter of a very wealthy farmer.
However, Ichabod is not the only one
seeking Katrina’s hand. His competition is
Brom Bones who plays tricks and tries to
intimidate Ichabod from pursuing her.
The crew performing The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow lost two weeks because of
Hurricane Harvey and only had about four
weeks to prepare for the play. The actors
and actresses practiced all over campus
wherever they could run lines, such as in
Underwood Theatre, Glassel Hall, and the
theater classroom in the Convent. However,
on the last week of rehearsals, they
and the technical crew met at the A.D.
Players Theatre after school to do some
last-minute preparation.
On October 11, the Freshman Knights
went on the annual Arts Day Houston
extravaganza. And what did freshman
Campbell Craft have to say about the day?
“Never had a better day in [my] life.”
Chaperoned by members of the Arts
Pillar and some administrators, the Class
of 2021 was divided in half by advisories
and bussed to either Herman Park for an
art scavenger hunt or to a dance studio
where they watched a performance by the
dance company Ad Deum. The groups
later flip-flopped venues prior to lunch
at the City Centre Studio Movie Grill
where the entire class enjoyed lunch while
watching the EHS Film Festival courtesy
of the moviemaking classes.
Following the tasty and visually appealing
faire, the group finished their day at
the Museum of Fine Arts and observed
various exhibits.
The 2017-2018 version of the ETV crew
has been busy preparing new and
entertaining episodes to present to the
school and other members of the Houston
community.
The advanced moviemakers include
Alexander Haney, Austin Reppert, Sam
Birdwell, All American High School Film
Festival award winner Weston Bering,
Get pumpedkin’ up for Hauntcert this
October 31 as the Music Program comes
together in the Benitez Chapel for its annual
Hauntcert.
Hauntcert is Episcopal’s widely known
“clash concert.” The choirs, Chorale and
Midknight Blues, as well as the orchestra,
perform songs and dress up in Halloween
costumes on this magical night.
ETV has begun to create some interesting
productions. Some of their ideas
include a kung-fu master’s revenge on
his arch-nemesis, a political thriller about
a marshmallow, and a Claymation film
about the moon and the sun’s complicated
love story.
With even more ideas to come for future
episodes, the student body and faculty
cannot wait to see what other ideas the
group will bring to the screen.
Come out and support their next episode
on December 7 at the River Oaks Theater.
The films will start at 7:00 p.m.
it’s a time to enjoy yourself and support
the Arts Pillar.
This year’s big song is “Thriller.”
Flower Buzbee, a sophomore in Chorale,
said, “It will be really fun! The football
team comes, and it’s just a night of laughter,
silliness, and great music.”
Guests are also encouraged to dress up
in their favorite Halloween garb and join
the fun. They also get to help vote for the
Best Costume of the Knight.
That’s right, Knights. Come support and
dress to impress!
