<strong>America</strong>n Indian tribes adapted<br />

to <strong>the</strong>ir envir<strong>on</strong>ment in many<br />

different ways. One way was<br />

how <strong>the</strong>y made <strong>the</strong>ir homes.<br />

The Powhatan lived in <strong>the</strong><br />

Eastern Woodlands regi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Many plants and trees grew here.<br />

The Powhatan lived in wood frame houses made with bark and<br />

reed coverings.<br />

The Lakota lived in <strong>the</strong> Plains regi<strong>on</strong>. Many herds <strong>of</strong> buffalo roamed<br />

here. The Lakota lived in teepees made from buffalo hides.<br />

The Pueblo lived in <strong>the</strong> Southwest regi<strong>on</strong>. This regi<strong>on</strong> was very dry,<br />

with few trees or animal herds. The Pueblo lived in adobe (clay)<br />

multi-terraced buildings.<br />

Use <strong>the</strong> text to determine which <strong>America</strong>n Indians lived in each<br />

home. Write Powhatan, Lakota, or Pueblo under each photograph.<br />
