In the news In Roman a fairly simple black and white mosaic was found when they were digging for a new subway. This well done, monochrome mosaic is thought to have been from the home of the commander of an adjacent set of barracks found in 2016. It has been dated to the second century CE and is unusual as so few mosaics have been found that have a military connection. There were a total of 14 rooms found around a courtyard with fountains and pools. The materials used are a combination of white marble and grey slate. The mosaics will be lifted, conserved and then they will be reinstalled and on display in the new metro. A section of the floor found. Image copyright MiBACT
