Cut one flight Air Iceland Connect will be curring one plane at KEF this summer. The flights between KEF – Aberdeen, KEF Belfast, KEF Akureyri and KEF to Kangerlussuaq will not be operated this summer. Though the flights to Narsarsuaq will instead be operated from REY instead of KEF on the same dates as the current schedule, but not the same time. It has never been in tradition in Iceland to accept or give tips. However, in other parts of the world, tipping is a tradition, and in some countries it is almost the only wages that restaurant employees get for their work. “With tourism increasing in Iceland, we at Hotel Hotel Rangá have become aware that our guests tip employees in various fields connected to the travel industry. On the other hand, we have noticed that in the United States, for example, where restaurant wages are usually low, people are trying to put a stop to this tipping custom and instead increasing the salaries”, says Ása Valdís Árnadóttir. Hotel Rangá decided two years ago that they would not accept tips. However, they tell their guests that if they are happy with the service, they are welcome to help the Rescue teams in the area by donating some money. “We have been getting very positive comments and reviews about this decision.” The support from the guests is now ISK 2.000.000 (around 15.800 Euros), two Search and Rescue teams in the area ISK 1.000.000 (around 7900 Euros) was handed each. The picture above is from this event. The staff at Hotel Rangá has then in total handed the Rescue teams in the area ISK 2.400.000 (around 19.100 Euros) since they stopped accepting tips. Tips to rescuers Dear guest, In various parts of the world, tips are commonly paid to waiters and other personnel at hospitality and service companies. This has not been the case in Iceland as the wages of restaurant, hotel and other hospitality personnel are included in the price of the services. We know, however, that some of our honoured guests wish to express their appreciation to our devoted staff for their good service by making special extra payments, tips, to them. We, the personnel at Hotel Rangá, appreciate your thought and are happy to accept your contributions, but not for us personally. Instead we will forward them directly to the search and rescue teams in the area, in support of their important mission.
