Orland Fire to offer meeting on
importance of ‘Homecare’ for seniors

the next Coffee & Conversation
event to be held Thursday,
April 26, by the Orland
Fire Protection District.
The Fire District hosts the
free Coffee & Conversations
programs each month to educate
residents on services
related to healthcare, emergency
care and fire safety.

“Betsy” Dine said that the
sessions are important especially
to seniors, and families
who have members who
are disabled and in need.
The two-hour Coffee &
Conversations program is
held each month and sponsored
by the Orland Fire,
the Senior Advisory Council
and Aishling care.
The next meeting begins
at 9 a.m. April 26. The meetings
are held at the Fire District’s
Administration Building
at 9790 W. 151st St.
Junior Cadet Program
Overview
The Junior Cadet Class (Pilot
Program) is being offered
this year as a one-day class on
Monday, July 16. This class
is to be offered to the first 15
children (residents) between
the ages of 13 and 15.
This class is to give students
a glimpse of an opportunity
to explore Fire Rescue and
emergency medical services.
This class is to provide a
combination of classroom and
side-by-side training with our
cadets and firefighters.
Junior Cadet Class registration
is to begin from 9 a.m.-3
p.m. Monday, June 4, at the
Administration Building.
Kid’s Fire & Life Safety
Camp
The Kid’s Fire & Life
Safety Camp is to be offered
again this coming summer
as a three-day camp, starting
on Wednesday, July 18,
and ending on Friday, July
20. This class will be offered
to the first 40 children
(residents) between the ages
of 8 and 12. This camp is interactive.
The campers will
receive classroom and outside
activities.
Orland Fire Protection
District Annual Open House
Our Annual House is to
be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Saturday, July 21. The Open
House features a wide range
of demonstrations, showcasing
how firefighters address
various emergency situations.
Different major fire equipment
that is used for emergency
responses will be shown. A
surprise scenario will be displayed
at some point during
the day.
This event features free
giveaways, refreshments and
the involvement of many
community organizations
throughout the district, which
are to provide information on
emergency and health services
and prizes. The Senior
Advisory Council is to be on
hand to help the staff of the
fire district.
Residents can nominate
Orland Park for $20K prize

This Earth Month, the National
Recreation and Park
Association is collaborating
with The Walt Disney
Company to revitalize parks
across the United States for
a third year. The city that receives
the most nominations
is to receive a $20,000 grant
to improve a local park as
part of a Meet Me at the Park
campaign.
Through April 30, Orland
Park residents have the opportunity
to nominate the
Village to receive $20,000
in grant funding to make improvements
at a local park.

BeInspired, park supporters
can nominate Orland Park.
New this year, everyone
who nominates a city will be
entered into a drawing for a
tablet outfitted for the outdoors.
“Village parks have always
been an integral part of
family life in Orland Park,”
said Trustee Dan Calandriello,
chair of the village’s
Recreation and Parks Committee.
“We hope everyone
will join us by nominating
Orland Park to receive the
grant funds for improvements
to the parks we know
and love.”

Family Health Expo to return
April 14 to OP Sportsplex

Recreation Department’s
annual Family Health Expo
from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday,
April 14, at the Sportsplex,
11351 W. 159th St.
The free and fun-filled
day is to highlight the fitness
needs of those both young
and old.
Hurley to stage Kids’ Health and Safety event

State Rep. Fran Hurley is
inviting families to attend
a Kids’ Health and Safety
Fun Fair from noon-3 p.m.
Saturday, April 21, at the
Orland Township Building,
14807 S. Ravinia Ave. in
Orland Park.
Hurley is sponsoring the
fair in conjunction with
state Sen. Bill Cunningham
and Orland Township Supervisor
Paul O’Grady.
It will feature several

SilverSneakers instructor
SilverSneakers, a national
exercise program for
seniors, has certified Debbi
Weston as an instructor. She
is a personal trainer at Anytime
Fitness in Orland Park
and Romeoville.
Weston has customized
her own SilverSneakers
yoga classes through which
those who need modifications
will be coached for a
chair style yoga routine. In
this program she will slowly
guide participants through
The expo offers information
on various health and
nutrition issues; a chance to
sample aerobic classes; and
free blood pressure screenings,
flexibility testing and
injury screenings.
New in 2018, guests are
encouraged to dress comfortably
and join in on group
exercise classes. This year’s
expo also is to feature new
vendors, along with skin
health and safety booths
from local and state government
agencies that provide
a wide range of safety education,
health care and programs
for children.
Hurley is to welcome
the Brookfield Zoo Animal
Ambassadors to exhibit
zoo animals for children
to see and interact with;
the Orland Park Police Department
is to do free child
fingerprinting; and Orland
Township Health and Youth
Services is slated to screen
immunization records,
poses, and those who find
it easy are coached to “intensify”
safely within their
abilities.
Weston also is certified as
a personal trainer and as a
yoga instructor. She teaches
several SilverSneakers formats,
including circuit training
and “cardio,” which is
described as low-impact aerobics
training with strength
and conditioning.
Debbi launched the Silver
Sneakers classes in the Orland
Park location last October.
She also has taught the
cancer screenings done by
Skin MD.
Children also are in for
fun, as the expo features face
painting, a dino jump inflatable
and an obstacle course.

they are encouraged to bring
them to have a safety check
done by Performance Bicycle.
