have served on the UJSSA Board of Directors<br />

for at least one year are eligible for election as<br />

officers of the organization.<br />

The nominations for President will be taken<br />

at the end of the banquet. Speeches by the<br />

nominees will take place during the Saturday<br />

evening banquet. The voting will be done by<br />

ballot at the banquet after speeches have been<br />

made. The new President will be announced at<br />

the banquet after the votes have been tallied.<br />

UJSSA officers and directors are expected<br />

to attend the <strong>2018</strong> and 2019 National Junior<br />

<strong>Suffolk</strong> Shows, assist with fundraising for the<br />

junior show and junior promotional projects,<br />

attend the UJSSA Director meeting at NAILE in<br />

Louisville, Kentucky in November and promote<br />

interest in the <strong>Suffolk</strong> breed and membership in<br />

UJSSA through various promotional and educational<br />

activities.<br />

UJSSA officers are expected to participate<br />

in all UJSSA Board conference calls. If a<br />

Director is absent for two consecutive meetings<br />

or conference calls they will be relieved of<br />

their position on the board.<br />

Let’s Grow<br />

Scholarship<br />

One - $1000 scholarship is offered through<br />

the United <strong>Suffolk</strong> Sheep Association to an outstanding<br />

individual whom is actively involved<br />

with <strong>Suffolk</strong> sheep. The eligible individuals<br />

must meet the following requirements:<br />

1. At least freshman in high school<br />

2. Have registered <strong>Suffolk</strong>s<br />

3. Actively involved with <strong>Suffolk</strong> sheep at<br />

the local, state, regional and/or national<br />

level<br />

4. Possess a strong work ethic and values<br />

5. Have a minimum 3.0 grade point average<br />

6. Plan to attend a college or university with<br />

In addition to meeting the requirements listed<br />

above, applicants must do the following:<br />

1. Complete an application form, either<br />

word processed or typed, but not handwritten,<br />

which is available from the USSA<br />

Office or USSA website.<br />

2. Submit two letters of recommendation<br />

from teachers/professors, counselors or<br />

community leaders.<br />

3. Provide a current transcript of scholastic<br />

credits.<br />

All eligible young breeders are encouraged<br />

to join the competition. Funds will be paid<br />

directly to the winner’s college or university and<br />

may be used for academic pursuits only. If the<br />

recipient is younger than 18, funds will be put<br />

into a trust fund until the individual turns 18 and<br />

at that time, will be paid to the college or university<br />

in which they have enrolled in. Past winners<br />

may reapply, but are not guaranteed to be<br />

selected as the recipient in subsequent years.<br />

Finalists will be selected from the applications<br />

received. Finalists will be interviewed by<br />

the Scholarship Committee at the North<br />

American International Livestock Exposition<br />

(NAILE) held in Louisville, KY. Finalists in attendance<br />

to NAILE should check the USSA<br />

Display Table for an interview date and schedule.<br />

Applicants not able to attend interviews in<br />

person will be interviewed via the telephone.<br />

The scholarship winners will be announced at<br />

the USSA Annual Meeting held in Louisville, KY.<br />

Applications must be received by the office<br />

no later than October 1, <strong>2018</strong>. Winners will be<br />

selected entirely based on merit.<br />

Application<br />

The United <strong>Suffolk</strong> Sheep Association is<br />

offering one $1,000 Scholarships for graduating<br />

high school seniors or students enrolled at<br />

a college or university. Any United Junior<br />

<strong>Suffolk</strong> Sheep Association member who owns<br />

registered <strong>Suffolk</strong> sheep and whom is either a<br />

senior in high school or currently enrolled in a<br />

college or university is eligible. We encourage<br />

all eligible young breeders to join the competition.<br />
