have served on the UJSSA Board of Directors
for at least one year are eligible for election as
officers of the organization.
The nominations for President will be taken
at the end of the banquet. Speeches by the
nominees will take place during the Saturday
evening banquet. The voting will be done by
ballot at the banquet after speeches have been
made. The new President will be announced at
the banquet after the votes have been tallied.
UJSSA officers and directors are expected
to attend the 2018 and 2019 National Junior
Suffolk Shows, assist with fundraising for the
junior show and junior promotional projects,
attend the UJSSA Director meeting at NAILE in
Louisville, Kentucky in November and promote
interest in the Suffolk breed and membership in
UJSSA through various promotional and educational
activities.
UJSSA officers are expected to participate
in all UJSSA Board conference calls. If a
Director is absent for two consecutive meetings
or conference calls they will be relieved of
their position on the board.
Let’s Grow
Scholarship
One - $1000 scholarship is offered through
the United Suffolk Sheep Association to an outstanding
individual whom is actively involved
with Suffolk sheep. The eligible individuals
must meet the following requirements:
1. At least freshman in high school
2. Have registered Suffolks
3. Actively involved with Suffolk sheep at
the local, state, regional and/or national
level
4. Possess a strong work ethic and values
5. Have a minimum 3.0 grade point average
6. Plan to attend a college or university with

7. Must be a member of the United Junior
Suffolk Sheep Association
In addition to meeting the requirements listed
above, applicants must do the following:
1. Complete an application form, either
word processed or typed, but not handwritten,
which is available from the USSA
Office or USSA website.
2. Submit two letters of recommendation
from teachers/professors, counselors or
community leaders.
3. Provide a current transcript of scholastic
credits.
All eligible young breeders are encouraged
to join the competition. Funds will be paid
directly to the winner’s college or university and
may be used for academic pursuits only. If the
recipient is younger than 18, funds will be put
into a trust fund until the individual turns 18 and
at that time, will be paid to the college or university
in which they have enrolled in. Past winners
may reapply, but are not guaranteed to be
selected as the recipient in subsequent years.
Finalists will be selected from the applications
received. Finalists will be interviewed by
the Scholarship Committee at the North
American International Livestock Exposition
(NAILE) held in Louisville, KY. Finalists in attendance
to NAILE should check the USSA
Display Table for an interview date and schedule.
Applicants not able to attend interviews in
person will be interviewed via the telephone.
The scholarship winners will be announced at
the USSA Annual Meeting held in Louisville, KY.
Applications must be received by the office
no later than October 1, 2018. Winners will be
selected entirely based on merit.

Application
The United Suffolk Sheep Association is
offering one $1,000 Scholarships for graduating
high school seniors or students enrolled at
a college or university. Any United Junior
Suffolk Sheep Association member who owns
registered Suffolk sheep and whom is either a
senior in high school or currently enrolled in a
college or university is eligible. We encourage
all eligible young breeders to join the competition.
