PERSONAL SAFETY TIPS<br />
• Emergency Blue Light Phones are located throughout campus that connect you directly to<br />
Campus Security. See page 119 for locations <strong>of</strong> these phones.<br />
• Dial Campus Security at 4-2648 for 24 hours a day safety escort services .<br />
• When possible walk with others to and from any campus location, especially before or after<br />
daylight hours.<br />
• Check to see if <strong>of</strong>fice doors are locked if working alone outside normal working hours.<br />
• Dial Campus Security at 4-2648 to arrange for personal safety checks when working alone on<br />
campus outside normal business hours.<br />
CRIME IN PROGRESS<br />
Do not attempt to apprehend or interfere with the criminal in any way. If safe to do so, stop and<br />
take time to get a good description <strong>of</strong> the criminal. Note height, weight, sex, ethnicity, approximate<br />
age, clothing, direction <strong>of</strong> travel and name, if known. All this takes only a few seconds and is <strong>of</strong> utmost<br />
help to the investigating <strong>of</strong>ficers. If the criminal is entering a vehicle, note the license number, make<br />
and model, color and outstanding characteristics, if any.<br />
Call Campus Security at 4-2911. Give your name, location and department. Advise them <strong>of</strong> the<br />
situation and remain where you are until contacted by an <strong>of</strong>ficer. In the event <strong>of</strong> a civil disturbance,<br />
continue inasmuch as possible with your normal routine. If the disturbance is outside, stay away<br />
from the doors and windows.<br />
Do not interfere with those persons creating a disturbance or with Campus Security Officers or<br />
law enforcement authorities on the scene.<br />
BOMB THREAT<br />
1. Bomb threats usually occur by telephone.<br />
2. The person receiving a bomb threat should remain calm and attempt to obtain as much<br />
information as possible from the caller by using the following checklist.<br />
3. Call Campus Security at 4-2911, giving your name, location and telephone number. Inform<br />
them <strong>of</strong> the situation, including any information you may have regarding the location <strong>of</strong> the<br />
bomb, time it is set to explode and time when you received the call.<br />
4. If you should spot a suspicious object, package, etc., report it to Campus Security, but under<br />
no circumstances should you touch it, tamper with it or move it in any way.<br />
5. If instructed to evacuate, move a safe distance away from the building (a minimum <strong>of</strong> 100<br />
yards). If inclement weather conditions exist you may move to another building a safe<br />
distance away. Do not re-enter the building until instructed that it is safe to do so.<br />
