ELECTION
St George’s heads to the
polls
By Leah Naylor and Luke Blishen
It’s that time of year when we get to vote
for who will serve as our head girl and head
boy next year.
These past few weeks, applications have
been submitted by Year 10 for the
prestigious posts, which are only in their
second year of existence.
Although there are many places up for
grabs, the elections for head boy and head
girl are taking place on April 27th and
everybody will have a chance to vote for
who they think will represent the school and
embody all the ASPIRE values consistently
as a key member of the school community.
One of the most important things to know
about the candidates is who they are and
what they stand for. On the following pages
you will find details of 11 students who think
they have what it takes to best represent
our school.
The selection of the candidates was based
on applications they submitted to their
head of year, Miss Keenan, and she chose
according to who she thought ‘captured
the essence of the year group’ and who
would be the best ambassadors of the
school.
Miss Keenan took the role of head of
Year 10 in September, so all students
have had a new opportunity to have a
fresh start, therefore giving all students
a new chance to show who they are
without the backlash of past incidences.
This gave all pupils a fair chance at
these two important roles.
The head of year has high expectations
for her year group as ‘they are open
minded’ and ‘have the confidence to
voice their opinions’. She believes that
they will make many positive changes
around the school, not only for the
student population right now, but also
in the future.

Serving the school …
Head Boy and Head Girl have quite a lot of responsibility in school.
One of the main things they must do is encompass all the ASPIRE values on a
daily basis, to be a role model and relate well to younger pupils and their peers.
Another responsibility is overseeing the prefect team and organising the duty
team. It is also essential to be a big part of the St George community, for
example taking part in charity events and the organisation of these.
Looking ahead, being a prefect in school can have many advantages later in life. It looks excellent on your CV
and job applications as it shows you have held a position of great responsibility and you are a good leader -
qualities guaranteed to impress at interviews.
Head Girl for 2017-2018 India Miles, who was the first to hold the post, said: “Being Head Girl is a great
experience where you can impact the lives of others at this school for the better.”
Ben McCormack, Head Boy for 2017-18, said: “What I loved about being Head Boy was the sense of
responsibility I gained from the role.”
Teachers are invited to vote as well as students, and the candidates will also have to take part in an interview
with the Chair of Governors Mr Marchetti and Headteacher Mr Habberley.
