Savoring every last bite – and drink
Glenview’s dining
options gather
under one roof
The full range of the
Glenview dining experience
was on sweet and
savory display on Thursday,
April 26, at the Glenview
Chamber of Commerce’s
sixth annual Bites
& Brews mini-food and
drink fest.
The event featured food
and beer samplings from
more than two dozen
area restaurants, caterers
and craft beer purveyors,
drawing 350 guests to The
Glen Club.
“There are so many different
choices and varieties
to chose from there,
and there are great independent
places that you are
not going to get anywhere
else than Glenview,” said
Chamber President Karen
Patterson.
“Glenview is a very underestimated
dining destination,”
said Tom Lamson,
general manager of
Wildfire. “The community
overall has a lot of hidden
gems and this event definitely
showcases that.”
Wildfire offered samples
of its popular chopped
salad, high plains bison
meatballs and Key lime
pie.
Chris Maloyan — coowner,
along with his
wife, Susie, of Second
City Prime Steak and Seafood
— said the business
has become very popular
with Glenview residents.
“It is just a young community
with a lot of families
that entertain,” he said.
“They like to have people
around on weekends.”
Anne Hagerty, of Glenview’s Marriott Chicago North
Shore, tries a bite from Gusto Restaurant.
Second City is a home
delivery service of fine
steaks and seafood.
“Call us up and we
bring the truck right to
your door,” Susie Maloyan
said.
They offered samples of
prime strip steak with their
seasonings, and skirt steak
with their marinade.
The fest offered restaurants
a good opportunity
to see and be seen, said
Kellie Allgauer, of Allgauer’s
Restaurant.
“Exposure is key to
business no matter who
you are or where you are.
The more we get our name
out there, the better,” she
said.
Grilled pepper shrimp
and deconstructed bruschetta
on toast points were
among her offerings.
“We love doing local
events and being part of
the community,” said Susie
Breden, general manager
of Jolanne’s, which
featured crab cakes and an
ahi poke bowl.
Becky Boston, a bartender
at The Curragh,
touted The Glen, as well
as The Curragh, as a destination.
“It is a great place, with
a bunch of shops and
walkways, and it is beautiful
location to sit down,
grab a bite to eat and have
a beer,” she said. The restaurant’s
famous Reuben
rolls were a big hit at the
fest.
Another favorite was
the sampling of octopus
from Greek restaurant Plateia.
Owner Agatha Papadatos
emphasized that the
restaurant only uses Spanish
octopus because of its
superior taste.
Another was Gail’s
Brownies, which offered
seven different kinds of
brownies.
“We ship anywhere in
the country, and a lot of
our customers are on the
North Shore,” said owner
Jack Eisenberg.
Other treats included
barbecue chicken sandwiches
and sticky toffee
pudding from Johnny’s
Kitchen & Tap; pork
sandwiches plus mac and
cheese from JD’s Q and
Brew; short rib and pastor
tacos from Cafe El
Tapatio; and fluffernutter
cupcakes from Sweet Ali’s
Gluten Free Bakery.
Distributors, such
as Granite City, Macushla
Brewing Co., Ten Ninety
Brewing Company, Midnight
and 2 Fools Cider.
