“It matters to me because 15 years ago my family moved out to Spain thinking that we would always
be able to live in our adopted home. We love living in Spain and the thought of having to move back
to the UK fills us with dread. Our daughter has gone through secondary schooling and university
leaving with 2 degrees including a Masters and is now working. She is very capable of getting
citizenship but the fact that if Brexit goes through we (her parents) may have to go back to the UK if
the health arrangements are no longer reciprocal. We are paying a private health insurance at the
moment but as we get older that will become much more expensive and unaffordable for us. As the
Spanish citizenship does not allow dual nationality if we are in the UK and she is a Spanish citizen
how easy will it be for her to visit us or move back to the UK? Will her qualifications be acceptable if
we have to move back? This whole fiasco needs to be halted and common sense return to the
country. Brexit needs to be stopped.”
“It matters to me as it matters to everybody. It will affect me and will affect everybody. It is
segregation and backward thinking. Not future or clever thinking. It's causing stress and separating
humans and human goodness and spirit. It's a disaster. And I want to go back to before all this
nonsense. These Politicians need to go back to school as they have not been taught well. I want it
fixed and get back to common sense and reunite again... Normality! #stopbrexit”
“It matters to me because I am not parochial, insular or inward-looking. I do not wish to ring-fence
Britain. I'm in the age group that voted to leave, but I am not one of them. I voted to remain
because I have 7 grandchildren (so far!) and I can see that the UK is betraying their future. The 2
eldest want to work abroad, one as a computer specialist and the other as an obstetrician. Currently
they are at university and 'A' level stage at present. My youngest grandchild is 5 weeks old. What are
his chances of an education and job that embraces Europe?”
“It matters to me because I have only ever worked in Spain. I emigrated with my mother 43 yrs ago.
My daughter is Spanish. Spain is my life.”
“It matters to me because I cherish my EU Citizenship and my freedom to travel, study, work and live
in such diverse and culturally rich countries with relative ease. My partner and I love Spain and for
the last four years our goal has been and continues to be making our house in Spain our forever
home. Brexit is the most negative, destructive and divisive political mess that I’ve ever experienced.
Losing all the benefits of EU membership is not my will. #ItMattersToMe”
“It matters to me because I left Scotland in 1994 to live in the Netherlands. It’s the only home my
daughters know (28 and 26). We are European. We have a home in Spain to retire to in 5 years. We
are going to be denied freedom of movement, enforced by choices of an incompetent UK
government, while the people of Scotland voted to remain in Europe. My soul weeps.”
“It matters to me because I may hold a British passport and nationality but I am European and have
made my life in Spain, just as my daughters hold Spanish passports and are also European. Through
the EU we enrich each other.”
“It matters to me because I've lived and worked in Spain for 30 years, my children were born here,
my partner is Spanish, my house is here, most of my friends are here and I can't imagine going back
to the UK to live. It matters to me because both my children are studying in the UK and I want them
to continue to have that freedom of movement.
And it matters to me because I am still fond of my home country (fond, definitely not proud) and am
afraid that it is becoming insular, racist and the laughing stock of the world.”
