Health<br />
The Program recognizes the importance of health in a variety of setting; nursing actions promote<br />
this behavior through:<br />
• health promotion, risk reduction and disease prevention<br />
• evidence-based research<br />
• patient teaching of the concept of the health-illness continuum<br />
• nursing responsibility <strong>to</strong> provide health education <strong>to</strong> patients and families<br />
• health achievement through population-based health activities<br />
Environment<br />
Internal and external environments influence health and achievement of optimal well-being.<br />
Nurses function in the health care environment <strong>to</strong> the betterment of the patient experience in the<br />
health care delivery system with the following goals:<br />
• effective communication<br />
• recognition of the synergy among the socio-political, economic and physical<br />
environments and the need for disaster preparedness<br />
• quality and cost effectiveness as essential characteristics of healthcare efficiency<br />
• knowledge of healthcare policy, finance, and regula<strong>to</strong>ry environments<br />
• technological skills and informatics in the education of students for a patient-centered,<br />
evidence based health care environment<br />
• respect for the material and non-material environments<br />
