The Program recognizes the importance of health in a variety of setting; nursing actions promote
this behavior through:
• health promotion, risk reduction and disease prevention
• evidence-based research
• patient teaching of the concept of the health-illness continuum
• nursing responsibility to provide health education to patients and families
• health achievement through population-based health activities
Environment
Internal and external environments influence health and achievement of optimal well-being.
Nurses function in the health care environment to the betterment of the patient experience in the
health care delivery system with the following goals:
• effective communication
• recognition of the synergy among the socio-political, economic and physical
environments and the need for disaster preparedness
• quality and cost effectiveness as essential characteristics of healthcare efficiency
• knowledge of healthcare policy, finance, and regulatory environments
• technological skills and informatics in the education of students for a patient-centered,
evidence based health care environment
• respect for the material and non-material environments
