TOOL TIP
Got LBS?
Look For the Neck.
Reducing tool deflection is a key part of
successfully milling deep pockets and slots. Using
an end mill with a necked-down shank and a
stub or standard flute length greatly improves tool
stability in long-reach cuts. The necked shank
retains much of the core strength of the carbide
rod, increasing tool life and achieving more
precise milled wall tolerances.
LBS, or Length Below Shank, designates the
combined neck length plus the tool’s flute length.
