Nestled right in the heart of Tinley Park at 171st Street and 80th Avenue, White Water Canyon opens for the 2018 season on June 2 and runs through Sept. 3. White Water Canyon is open seven days a week from noon-8 p.m. daily. As the kids head back to school, weekday hours are shortened to 4-7 p.m., and weekend hours to 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Season pass holders are permitted to enter the park 30 minutes earlier than daily admission guests. Season passes are available for both residents and non-residents. The fees for passes can be found on the Tinley Park-Park District’s website at tinleyparkdistrict. org. Daily admission rates are $8 per person for Park District residents or $16 for non-residents. Parking is free. Owned and operated by the Tinley Park-Park District, White Water Canyon is a 5-acre water park with amenities for all ages. The main pool features zerodepth entry with an all new interactive children’s play area, a 1-meter diving board and a 3-meter drop slide. A continuouslyflowing lazy river wraps around three exhilarating water slides; one- and twoperson tubes are provided for guests. White Water Canyon also has a children’s spray ground, full of interactive fountains, water cannons, spraying arches, squirting flowers, and dumping buckets. There is also a large sand area for creating awesome sand castles. On July 4, White Water Canyon is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Just down the block Tinley Park-Park District’s annual Fourth of July Celebration will be in full swing at Mc- Carthy Park. Every year, nearly 20,000 people join in the all-day celebration. Of course, no one leaves before the spectacular fireworks show, widely known as the “Best Fireworks Show in the South Suburbs.” So spend the day keeping cool at the water park and then head over to the festivities and fireworks - you won’t want to miss it. Want to host a birthday party for your child? White Water Canyon offers birthday parties and spray ground parties all summer long. Birthday party groups get use of the Party Pavilion and a deck attendant is on hand to assist you with food and refreshments. 22ndCenturyMedia.com Summer Fun Guide 22nd century media | May 17, 2018 | 3 Homer Fest to feature four days of food, fun, ‘Symphony of Lights’ fireworks The Village of Homer Glen, Homer Township and the Homer Township Road District have joined together once again to bring four days of food, fun, fireworks and a parade to the Homer Community. Celebrating the arrival of summer, the 2018 Homer Community Festival is scheduled to take place June 21-24. All Around Amusements will return with rides to thrill and excite those of all ages. Mega Passes, for unlimited carnival rides for the duration of the event, will go on sale May 29 for $55. Passes can be purchased at the Homer Glen Village Hall, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, until June 20. Major credit cards will be accepted. Starting June 21, Mega Passes will be available at the festival for $65. With generous support from Meijer and Kenwood Liquors, the “Symphony of Lights” fireworks display, will help kick off the festival June 21. The display, which will be choreographed to classical music, is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. Families are invited to arrive early and enjoy a magic show at 7 p.m. from Mr. D’s Magic and Illusions. Those attending the event for the fireworks show only are encouraged to take advantage of offsite parking and shuttle buses to avoid congestion leaving the site. Courtesy of entertainment sponsors Loyola Medicine and Rubi Agave, the stellar music lineup is scheduled to include local favorite Maggie Speaks on June 21, Blooze Brothers and 7th Heaven on June 22, The Hairband Night on June 23, and Midwest Dueling Piano’s on June 24. Patrons aged 21 and older will once again be able to enjoy Rubi Agave’s famous margaritas, Budweiser and Bud Light products, Goose Island 312, Stella Artois, and more. Local not-for-profit groups serving in the tent will appreciate charitable tip-donations. Returning local food vendors Cool Creations, Davidson’s Bar and Grill, Pelican Harry’s, Pizza Mia, Rubi Agave, and Smokin’ Z BBQ will serve a delicious variety of menu items all at affordable prices. At 11 a.m. on June 23, neighbors, friends, and visitors will enjoy another fabulous Independence Day Parade, which will kick off on 151st and Parker Road. The Lockport Township High School Marching Band will join numerous other entertainers to delight young and old alike.
