founder and CEO Danny Kubasik
Wie hat sich das Unternehmen mcchip-dkr seit der
Gründung entwickelt?
Vor 14 Jahren habe ich in der Garage meiner Eltern
begonnen an Motorsteuergeräten zu tüfteln. Aus dem
Hobby wurde schnell Berufung und mit einem kleinen
Startkapital habe ich den ersten Geschäftsraum, unweit
des heutigen Firmensitzes gemietet. Mit viel
Eigeninitiative habe ich mich in die Materie vertieft,
mir so einen Namen gemacht und die Firma stetig
vorangetrieben. Das Geschäft entwickelte sich gut, so
dass 2012 ein eigenes Firmengebäude entstand, welches
nach und nach erweitert wurde. Heute beschäftigt
das Unternehmen 20 Mitarbeiter auf ca. 5000 m² mit
großzügigen Büroflächen, einem gut ausgestatteten
Werkstattbereich und modernster Prüfstandstechnik
für PKW und Agrarfahrzeuge. Auch das Unternehmensfeld
ist mit der Firma gewachsen. Zur Softwareentwicklung
für PKW, LKW und Agrarfahrzeuge kamen
Fahrzeugumbauten, Oldtimer-Restaurationen und der
Bereich Motorsport-Betreuung hinzu. Des Weiteren
entstand ein weltweites Vertriebsnetzwerk mit über
45 Partnern.
How has the company mcchip-dkr developed since
its founding?
14 years ago, I have started to work on engine control
units in my parents‘ garage. The hobby became quickly
to a passion and with a small start-up capital, I rented
the first office space near the current headquarter.
With a lot of personal initiative, I have deepened myself
in the matter, made one’s mark and constantly
advanced the company. The business developed well,
so that in 2012 a separate company building was built,
which was gradually expanded. Today, the company
mcchip-dkr employs 20 people on approx. 5.000 m²
with generous office space, a well-equipped workshop
area and state-of-the-art test bench technology for
cars and agricultural vehicles.
The company field has grown with the company
as well. Beside to software development for cars,
trucks and agricultural vehicles, we provide vehicle
conversions, classic car restorations and the field
of motorsport support. Furthermore, a worldwide
sales network with over 45 partners was created.
Wo liegen Ihre Aufgabenfelder als CEO von mcchip-dkr?
Neben der Unternehmensführung, bin ich derjenige,
der sich von dem ersten Tag an um die Softwareentwicklung
und Applikationen der Motorsteuergeräte
hier im Hause kümmert.
Wie läuft die Entwicklung einer neuen Software ab?
Sobald neue Fahrzeuge bzw. Steuergeräte auf den
Markt kommen, werden die Seriendaten aus den Steuergeräten
ausgelesen, aufgearbeitet und sorgfältig auf
unserem hauseigenen Prüfstand abgefahren. Dies ist
gerade am Anfang einer neuen Modellbaureihe sehr
zeitaufwendig, denn im Vergleich zu Fahrzeugen aus
früheren Baujahren (z.B. 2004) konnten wir die Entwicklung
innerhalb weniger Wochen abschließen.
Im Jahr 2017 haben wir alleine für die Softwareentwicklung
der neuen Porsche Turbomotoren ca.
fünf Monate benötigt. Die Motorelektronik moderner
Fahrzeuge wird immer komplizierter und die Softwareentwicklung
demensprechend schwieriger.
What are your responsibilities as CEO of mcchip-dkr?
In addition to the company management, I am the one
who cares from day one for the entire software development
and applications of the engine control units
here in the house.
How does the development of new software work?
As soon as new vehicles or ECUs come on the market,
my team starts to read out the manufacturer’s ECU software.
This data are the base for the tuning file, which
will subsequently developed by me and then carefully
tested on our own dyno. This is very time-consuming
right at the beginning of a new model series, because
we were able to complete the development within a
few weeks compared to vehicles from previous years
of construction (for example 2004). In 2017, we needed
about five months for software development of the
new Porsche Turbo engines. The engine electronics of
modern vehicles is getting more and more complicated
and the software development is becoming more difficult.
Welche Ziele verfolgt mcchip-dkr 2018 und darüber
hinaus?
Wir wollen unser weltweites Händlernetzwerk ausbauen
und gerade im stark wachsenden asiatischen Markt
weitere Vertriebspartner aktivieren. Auch im Motorsport
werden wir unsere Aktivitäten weiter ausbauen.
2017 ist mcchip-dkr erstmals mit einem eigenen
Motorsportteam in der VLN aktiv. Wie ist das Projekt
entstanden?
Wir sind als Zulieferer von Hard- und Softwareleistungssteigerungen
für viele Rennteams tätig. In den letzten
sieben Jahren konnte ich als Fahrer in der VLN
Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring wertvolle
Erfahrungen bei verschiedenen Rennteams sammeln.
Ende 2016 habe ich die Idee realisiert mit einem eigenen
Team und Fahrzeug in der VLN anzutreten. Nach
Gesprächen mit großen GT3-Herstellern habe ich mich
letztlich für den Renault R.S. 01 entschieden, das aus
meiner Sicht interessanteste Fahrzeug mit viel Entwicklungspotenzial.
Unsere internen Abteilungen konnten
durch das Motorsportprojekt viel dazulernen und sich
neue Fähigkeiten aneignen, die auch unseren Kunden
zu Gute kommen.
What are the targets of mcchip-dkr in 2018 and
beyond that?
We want to expand our global dealer network and
activate additional distribution partner, especially in the
growing Asian market. Furthermore, we will continue to
expand our activities in the motorsport sector.
In 2017, mcchip-dkr competed for the first time with
its own motorsport team in VLN. How did the project
come about?
We equipping many racing teams with our hardware
and software solutions. As a race driver in the VLN
endurance championship Nürburgring, I have gained
valuable experience in various racing teams in the last
seven years. At the end of 2016, I realized the idea
to compete in the VLN with my own team and car.
After numerous talks with major GT3 manufacturers, I
ultimately decided me for the Renault R.S. 01, which
is in my opinion the most interesting car with a lot of
development potential. Our internal departments
were able to learn a lot through the motorsport project
and acquire new skills that also benefit our customers.
