12 Mountain House Matters! • mhmatters.net May 2018 MH Fire Dept Gives CSD Board the Axe! continued from page 2 Submitted by Oong Lim • May 1, 2018 Events: The Month of April 2018, our French Camp McKinley Fire District and our Mountain House Fire Department personnel were thrilled about the number of opportunities they had with the members of the communities of Mountain House Community Services District. • 4-10-2018: MHFD personnel were invited to attend Family Story Time to read two to three books during family story time. • 4-16-2018: MHFD personnel visited fourth graders at Questa Elementary School. • 4-18-2018: Lt. Sikma had a meeting with Stephen Olson, Explorer Program Representative to discuss items pertaining to a fire explorer program for the MHCSD and MHFD. • 4-19-2018: MHFD personnel welcomed eight children with their parents and teachers for a Preschool Station Tour of Station 16-1. The children explored the Firehouse with their peers in which the MHFD staff were able to demonstrate donning and doffing their turnout gears. That’s really thoughtful of you guys.” The CSD Board voted last year to appropriate just under $400,000 to purchase the new engine, which had reportedly been a demonstration model. Members of the crew drove it back from South Dakota to bring it into service. Fire Chief Fred Manding addresses the CSD Board Additionally, the District invested approximately $80,000 to properly equip the apparatus. “The bulk was for hose, nozzles, hand tools, breathing apparatus medical equipment, etc.,” stated General Manager, Ed Pattison. “One big purchase,” he added, “was our multiband radio - $8,000 for one mobile radio! We had to use our old Hurst Tool!” he said. The new apparatus replaces a used 1999 truck that had been purchased in 2015 for just under $100,000.
