the ninth hour (says he) I prayed in my house, and behold a man stood <strong>by</strong> me<br />

in bright clothing, and said, Cornelius, your prayer is heard. (Acts 10.30, 31.)<br />

Send men to Joppa and call for Simon, whose name is Peter, who<br />

shall tell you words where<strong>by</strong> you and all your house shall be<br />

saved." (Acts 11.13, 14.) His prayer was not only heard and accepted,<br />

but graciously answered, in the knowledge he obtained of salvation<br />

<strong>by</strong> Jesus Christ.<br />

Another instance may be adduced from the book of Daniel. He was a<br />

man who studied the sacred Scriptures, (Daniel 9.2,) and in answer to<br />

prayer, obtained a clearer knowledge of their contents. "While I was<br />

speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people<br />

Israel and making my request to the LORD my God for his holy hill<br />

— while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the<br />

earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the<br />

evening sacrifice. He instructed me and said to me, "Daniel, I have now<br />

come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as you began to pray,<br />

an answer was given, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly<br />

esteemed. Therefore, consider the message and understand the vision."<br />

Daniel 9:20-23<br />

To have clearer views of the revealed will of God, was a great<br />

blessing; but, not a greater than that gracious assurance with which<br />

the communication of that knowledge was accompanied, namely,<br />

that he was in the favor of God, a "man greatly beloved." Happy is he<br />

who in sincerity seeks instruction at the fountain-head of all<br />

spiritual wisdom! The Holy Spirit is promised to teach us all things.<br />

(John 14.20.)<br />

The promises of God should be pleaded in prayer. He delights to lade<br />
