Police Reports
Police: Bystander faces drug, resisting charges
Ryan M. Canniff, 18, of
19935 Everett Lane in Mokena,
was charged May 6
with possession of cannabis
10 grams or less, possession
of drug paraphernalia and
resisting/obstructing an officer/firefighter/correctional
officer.
According to police reports,
an officer went to the
19300 block of Ashbrook
Lane to check on a assist call
with the New Lenox Fire
Department for a subject
who had a medical emergency.
The subject was
transported to Silver Cross
Hospital along with his family
to escort him. The officer
advised another officer at the
scene to patrol the area because
of recent car and residential
burglaries.
While leaving the scene,
the officer noticed a vehicle
parked across the street with
two subjects inside, including
Canniff. The officer approached
the vehicle and
asked what they were doing
in the area. Canniff reportedly
told the officer he did
not live in the area, and then
several times refused the officer’s
request to show ID.
The officer reportedly could
smell cannabis and asked
Canniff to exit the vehicle,
a request Canniff allegedly
refused. After reportedly
struggling with Canniff for
3-5 minutes, the officer
called in for assistance from
additional officers. The assisting
officers were able to
pull Canniff from his vehicle,
and he was laced under
arrest.
The officer then conducted
a search of Canniff’s vehicle
and reportedly found a
baggie with what was later
identified as 3.1 grams of
cannabis.
May 6
• Earnest L. Tillery, 42, of
400 Siegmund St. in Joliet,
was charged with DUI-alcohol,
DUI BAC over .08, failure
to reduce speed to avoid
an accident and causing an
accident involving property
damage.
According to police reports,
an officer was dispatched
for a motor vehicle
accident at the intersection of
West 195th Street and South
LaGrange Road. Upon arrival,
the officer spoke to Tillery,
who reportedly told the officer
that his vehicle was hit by
the victim’s. The officer then
spoke with the victim, who
reportedly told the officer it
was Tillery who had run into
the back of his vehicle while
stopped at a red light. Then,
two witnesses who allegedly
had been following Tillery
on Interstate 80 because Tillery
almost hit their vehicle
and was swerving across the
road, told the officer they had
contacted 911 and were in the
asked Tillery to participate
in several field sobriety tests,
The officer asked to search
Tillery’s vehicle, which Tillery
allegedly consented
to, and the officer found an
open bottle of liquor under
some clothes in the back seat
behind the passenger seat.
Tillery was then placed under
arrest.
Later at the Mokena police
station, Tillery was found to
