Please plan on joining us for an evening of fellowship, beautiful music and delicious dessert as the women of St. John’s and their friends prepare their hearts for Advent. Mark your calendar now. Want to ensure you have a seat at this year’s Advent by Candlelight? Volunteer to be a table hostess and we will reserve a chair for you! Hostesses provide table settings, holiday decoration, candles and a dessert for your table. Many partner with one or two others to host a table. It’s lots of fun, and requires only a few hours of your time for planning, baking (or buying) and decorating. Visit the display table in the church entryway to RSVP as a table hostess or to reserve your spot at a table. We need help with set-up and clean-up! HOLIDAY CONCERTS & SERVICES THANKSGIVING WORSHIP SERVICES We will be offering two opportunities for worship this Thanksgiving—November 24th at 6:30 pm and Thanksgiving Day at 9:30 am. Please join us in giving thanks for all that our Lord has blessed us. LUTHERAN CHORALE The Lutheran Chorale of Milwaukee will present its annual Advent/Christmas concert on Sunday, November 28th, at Gloria Dei-Bethesda Lutheran Church (9420 W. Capitol Dr., Milwaukee) at 2:00 & 4:30 pm. Prelude music begins 20 minutes prior to the concert. MIDWEEK ADVENT SERVICES AT ST. JOHN’S Sunday, November 28th marks the beginning of our Advent season. You are invited to join us in worship at our midweek Advent Services on Wednesdays, December 1st, 8th & 15th at 6:30 pm. SHORELAND LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL SLHS will hold their annual concert on Friday evening, December 10th at 7:00 pm. Come and enjoy the talents of our young people attending Shoreland. WISCONSIN LUTHERAN SEMINARY The Seminary Chorus will present its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, December 12th. Two identical performances begin at 3:00 & 7:00pm and will be held in the campus auditorium. The 56 voice choir will present the program “Gloria In Excelsis Deo.” LUTHER PREPARATORY SCHOOL Enjoy the Christmas season with the many talents of the Luther Prep Choirs and instrumentalists at their Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 12th at 3:00 pm and again on December 17th at 10:00 am. CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS SERVICE The children of St. John’s Sunday School and Grade School will be presenting their Christmas Service— The Signs of Christmas—on Sunday, December 19th at 10:30 am & 3:00 pm. 13
BIBLE STUDIES AT ST. JOHN’S “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18) Sundays Sunday School (Preschool - 6th grade) — 9:15 AM School Classrooms Dedicated teachers will use sound, Lutheran teaching materials and age-appropriate activities to engage children in Spirit-blessed interaction with God’s Word. Every lesson, every week, offers the clear message of forgiveness, life, and salvation that comes only through Jesus. Teen Bible Class (grades 7 - 12) — 9:15 AM School Resource Room Delving into the doctrines of Scripture will be the focus of this exciting topical study of the Bible. Teens can expect to take their elementary knowledge God’s Word to a new level while growing in faith at the same time. Pastor Paul Prange and Julie Speidel will lead the Teen Bible Class. Adult Bible Class — 9:15 AM — New Life in Christ School Workroom This basic Christian doctrine and discipleship course provides new members the opportunity to explore the Bible’s basic teachings and to learn what membership at St. John’s is all about! Current members are also welcome to attend this class as a review. Adult Bible Class — 9:15 AM — Catholicism Today—No Class on 11/14 Meeting Room The Burlington area is very Roman Catholic. Some of us have Catholic neighbors; some have Catholic friends; some even come from a Catholic background. It’s difficult to fully understand Lutheranism and the truths of Scripture without understanding the principles of Catholicism. This class will take an in-depth look at the official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, offer a scriptural appraisal, and confirm God’s truth in our hearts. The better we understand Catholicism, the more we will appreciate Lutheranism. Nursery care will be provided on Sunday mornings in the classroom located behind the stage in the gym. Tuesdays Breakfast Bible Study — 6:00 AM — Revelation Lucky Star Restaurant, Burlington Of all the books in the New Testament the Book of Revelation is the one that puzzles most readers today. The mysterious figures and cryptic symbols are far removed from the experience of most readers today. But the basic message of Revelation is still relevant today: no power on earth can ever threaten the rule of God and his Messiah. God’s lordship over the world is secure, and he reigns now and forever. Come explore this fascinating book with us. Led by Pastor Laabs Wednesdays Morning Bible Study — 8:45 AM — 1 Samuel Meeting Room or School Workroom God called Samuel, even as a child, to be a prophet and judge for the Israelites, who wanted a king. The books of Samuel outline the history of Israel’s first kings, Saul and David. Through many acts of deliverance and forgiveness, God kept safe the line of the King of kings, our Savior Jesus Christ. Led by Pastor Lahmann Preschool Power Hour — 9:30 AM Meeting Room This class is geared for children ages 18 months to 4 years of age and their parents. It offers Bible stories, music, & playtime. Preschool Power Hour meets the first & third Wednesdays of the month. Men’s Bible Study & Fellowship — 8:00 PM — 1 Samuel School Workroom Next class on November 17th. Led by Bob Edgington Thursdays Jesus Cares — 6:00 PM Meeting Room St. John’s outreach ministry for members of our church & community with developmental disabilities. Jesus Cares meets 14 on the second & fourth Thursdays of the month.
