SPECIAL EVENTS<br />

• BOOK SALE - The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold their<br />

next book sale on Saturday, <strong>June</strong> 30 th at 10 AM until 4 PM. There is a<br />

large selection of hardback fiction and nonfiction, as well as children’s<br />

books and paperbacks. All proceeds will benefit the library.<br />

• FAMILY FILM FESTIVAL - Bring the whole family out to our family<br />

film festival on Fridays at 1 PM. We start on <strong>June</strong> 1 st with a family of<br />

superheroes out to save the world. On <strong>June</strong> 8 th , a theme park is sabotaged<br />

and dinosaurs run amok. On <strong>June</strong> 15 th , a team is sent to site B<br />

to study more dinosaurs. On <strong>June</strong> 22 nd , a couple convinces Dr. Grant<br />

to return to dinosaur island. Finally, on <strong>June</strong> 29, the original theme<br />

park is open again with disastrous results. All movies begin at 1 PM.<br />

Popcorn will be provided.<br />

• SUMMER READING PROGRAM - It’s that time of year again! Summer<br />

has arrived and with it, the Summer Reading Program begins <strong>June</strong><br />

4 th . This year’s theme will be “Libraries Rock!” There will be weekly<br />

storytimes, special programs and crafts for children of all ages. This<br />

year we will be using a point system with all kinds of prizes! So this<br />

summer, join us! All programs are free.<br />

Monday, <strong>June</strong> 11 th , 1:30 and 3 PM: Puppet Pizzazz<br />

Monday, <strong>June</strong> 26 th , 1:30 PM: Books Alive: Nasty Gnarlies<br />

• ELEMENTARY BOOK CLUB - The library will be hosting a book club<br />

this year for children ages 7-10. Join us for activities and discussions on<br />

Wednesday, <strong>June</strong> 13 th at 3 PM as we read and talk about The Evolution<br />

of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly. Then on Wednesday, <strong>June</strong> 27 th<br />

at 3 PM, we will read and talk about Garvey’s Choice by Nikki Grimes.<br />

Books will be available for pick up on <strong>June</strong> 1 st .<br />

• CHESS WARS - Teens and tweens are invited to join us for Chess Wars!<br />

You played during the summer, now play during the school year! Join<br />

us Tuesdays at 4:45 PM as we battle it out on the chessboard. Come<br />

learn basic strategies and techniques to up your chess game so you<br />

too can play “out of this world.”<br />

• TEEN SUMMER READING PROGRAM - It’s that time of year again!<br />

Summer has arrived and with it, the Summer Reading Program begins<br />

<strong>June</strong> 4 th . This year’s theme will be “Libraries Rock.” Special teenage<br />

programs include various musical challenges. Young<br />

adults who complete the summer reading program<br />

will receive all kinds of prizes! So this summer, join us!<br />

All programs are free. Thursdays at 3 PM.<br />

<strong>June</strong> 7 th : 3D Printing with a movie<br />

<strong>June</strong> 14 th : Make Your Own Instrument<br />

<strong>June</strong> 21 st : DIY Guitar Picks<br />

• TEEN BOOK CLUB - We have started a teen book club! Teens are<br />

invited to join us on Thursday, <strong>June</strong> 21 st at 4:30 PM as we discuss<br />

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. If you are interested in joining us,<br />

extra copies of the book are available at the checkout desk.<br />

• ADULT SUMMER READING PROGRAM - It’s that time of year again!<br />

Summer has arrived and with it, the Summer Reading Program begins<br />

<strong>June</strong> 5 th . This year’s theme will be “Libraries Rock!” Special programs<br />

include movies and computer classes. This year we will be using a point<br />

system with various prizes. At the library, read books in various genres<br />

and get entered in drawings for various gift baskets. Read books in 5<br />

different genres and get entered into the drawing for our grand prize of<br />

various gift certificates and a Kindle. Come in and see what we have for<br />

you! Also, join us for our family summer reading programs. See below<br />

for our many adult only programs. All programs are free and everyone<br />

is welcome, although many of the classes do require pre-registration.<br />

• YOGA DEMONSTRATION - You asked for it, you got it! The library<br />

hosts classes twice a month. Yoga can be a very relaxing and centering<br />

exercise program. Join us on Saturdays, <strong>June</strong> 2 nd and 16 th at 3 PM, as<br />

we learn about the benefits and basic how-to of yoga. Join us as we<br />

exercise our minds and bodies. Registration required.<br />

• LIBRARIES ROCK! MIDNIGHT AT THE MASQUERADE: A MURDER<br />

MYSTERY - The rustle of silks and feathers under muted conversation<br />

was probably the last thing heard by the tragically and unexpectedly<br />

deceased at the Billionaires’ Club Annual Masquerade Ball. With a mystery<br />

under each feathery façade, unmasking the killer may be quite a<br />

challenge. On Saturday, <strong>June</strong> 9 th at 1 PM, it’s up to you to determine<br />

which partygoer is guilty, bring this crime to justice and save the party!<br />

Come dressed for a masquerade… and murder. Space in this event is<br />

extremely limited. Pre-registration is required. Refreshments will be<br />

provided.<br />

• LIBRARIES ROCK! DIY WORKSHOP: SHEET MUSIC GLASS MAGNETS<br />

- Join us on Tuesday, <strong>June</strong> 12 th at 2 PM as we make sheet music glass<br />

magnets. We’ll provide everything you need to make a lovely magnet<br />

for your refrigerator. Seating for this is extremely limited.<br />

• KATY MAKERSPACE - Did you know that the Katy area has its very<br />

own MakerSpace? We’ll be learning all about this special place for creators<br />

and inventors at the library on Tuesday, <strong>June</strong> 12 th at 7 PM. Harry<br />

Krueger will be here to give us an introduction to Katy MakerSpace and<br />

all you can do there. Makers of all ages and disciplines are encouraged<br />

to join us as we learn everything our new MakerSpace has to offer.<br />
