SPECIAL EVENTS
• BOOK SALE - The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold their
next book sale on Saturday, June 30 th at 10 AM until 4 PM. There is a
large selection of hardback fiction and nonfiction, as well as children’s
books and paperbacks. All proceeds will benefit the library.
• FAMILY FILM FESTIVAL - Bring the whole family out to our family
film festival on Fridays at 1 PM. We start on June 1 st with a family of
superheroes out to save the world. On June 8 th , a theme park is sabotaged
and dinosaurs run amok. On June 15 th , a team is sent to site B
to study more dinosaurs. On June 22 nd , a couple convinces Dr. Grant
to return to dinosaur island. Finally, on June 29, the original theme
park is open again with disastrous results. All movies begin at 1 PM.
Popcorn will be provided.
• SUMMER READING PROGRAM - It’s that time of year again! Summer
has arrived and with it, the Summer Reading Program begins June
4 th . This year’s theme will be “Libraries Rock!” There will be weekly
storytimes, special programs and crafts for children of all ages. This
year we will be using a point system with all kinds of prizes! So this
summer, join us! All programs are free.

• ELEMENTARY BOOK CLUB - The library will be hosting a book club
this year for children ages 7-10. Join us for activities and discussions on
Wednesday, June 13 th at 3 PM as we read and talk about The Evolution
of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly. Then on Wednesday, June 27 th
at 3 PM, we will read and talk about Garvey’s Choice by Nikki Grimes.
Books will be available for pick up on June 1 st .
• CHESS WARS - Teens and tweens are invited to join us for Chess Wars!
You played during the summer, now play during the school year! Join
us Tuesdays at 4:45 PM as we battle it out on the chessboard. Come
learn basic strategies and techniques to up your chess game so you
too can play “out of this world.”
• TEEN SUMMER READING PROGRAM - It’s that time of year again!
Summer has arrived and with it, the Summer Reading Program begins
June 4 th . This year’s theme will be “Libraries Rock.” Special teenage
programs include various musical challenges. Young
adults who complete the summer reading program
will receive all kinds of prizes! So this summer, join us!
All programs are free. Thursdays at 3 PM.

June 14 th : Make Your Own Instrument
June 21 st : DIY Guitar Picks
June 28 th : Drama Rocks!
• TEEN BOOK CLUB - We have started a teen book club! Teens are
invited to join us on Thursday, June 21 st at 4:30 PM as we discuss
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. If you are interested in joining us,
extra copies of the book are available at the checkout desk.
• ADULT SUMMER READING PROGRAM - It’s that time of year again!
Summer has arrived and with it, the Summer Reading Program begins
June 5 th . This year’s theme will be “Libraries Rock!” Special programs
include movies and computer classes. This year we will be using a point
system with various prizes. At the library, read books in various genres
and get entered in drawings for various gift baskets. Read books in 5
different genres and get entered into the drawing for our grand prize of
various gift certificates and a Kindle. Come in and see what we have for
you! Also, join us for our family summer reading programs. See below
for our many adult only programs. All programs are free and everyone
is welcome, although many of the classes do require pre-registration.
• YOGA DEMONSTRATION - You asked for it, you got it! The library
hosts classes twice a month. Yoga can be a very relaxing and centering
exercise program. Join us on Saturdays, June 2 nd and 16 th at 3 PM, as
we learn about the benefits and basic how-to of yoga. Join us as we
exercise our minds and bodies. Registration required.
• LIBRARIES ROCK! MIDNIGHT AT THE MASQUERADE: A MURDER
MYSTERY - The rustle of silks and feathers under muted conversation
was probably the last thing heard by the tragically and unexpectedly
deceased at the Billionaires’ Club Annual Masquerade Ball. With a mystery
under each feathery façade, unmasking the killer may be quite a
challenge. On Saturday, June 9 th at 1 PM, it’s up to you to determine
which partygoer is guilty, bring this crime to justice and save the party!
Come dressed for a masquerade… and murder. Space in this event is
extremely limited. Pre-registration is required. Refreshments will be
provided.
• LIBRARIES ROCK! DIY WORKSHOP: SHEET MUSIC GLASS MAGNETS
- Join us on Tuesday, June 12 th at 2 PM as we make sheet music glass
magnets. We’ll provide everything you need to make a lovely magnet
for your refrigerator. Seating for this is extremely limited.
• KATY MAKERSPACE - Did you know that the Katy area has its very
own MakerSpace? We’ll be learning all about this special place for creators
and inventors at the library on Tuesday, June 12 th at 7 PM. Harry
Krueger will be here to give us an introduction to Katy MakerSpace and
all you can do there. Makers of all ages and disciplines are encouraged
to join us as we learn everything our new MakerSpace has to offer.
