For further information, please call the COA at 978-352-5726. ------------------------------------------------------------ Health & Fitness GEORGETOWN – The Georgetown Council on Aging (COA) is seeking additional volunteer drivers to provide medical transportation to local elders. Through Northern Essex Elder Transport, Inc. (N.E.E.T.), the COA provides local elders with rides to medical appointments. Staffed by volunteer drivers, a donation of 43 cents per mile is suggested to help support the program and defray the increased cost of gasoline for volunteer drivers. However, donations are only suggested and no one will be denied a ride if unable to give a donation. A vital link in maintaining independence and healthy wellbeing for elders, the N.E.E.T. program fills the transportation void that often exists in rural communities. The program is a real and tangible way of making a difference in other people’s lives. During a recent survey, one local client rated the program as an “A+ with stars”. This is a fun event which blends beautiful floral displays with chosen works of art, offering a unique glimpse at HGC members’ interpretation of HAN artists’ work. Popcorn will be served. ------------------------------------------------------------ NEWBURYPORT – On Saturday, June 16th, between the hours of 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge will host the FREE, fourth annual, and daylong family event called Let’s Go Outside. The event is intended to provide children, adults and families with an opportunity to “try out” or experience a range of fun, healthy outdoor activities including kayaking, surf fishing, archery target shooting, nature and wildlife photography, and bird watching. Event participants will move through a variety of “activity stations” that will be located both at the refuge visitor center and on the Plum Island portion of the national wildlife refuge. Participants will be encouraged to begin their event experience at the refuge visitor center, where an enthusiastic group of staff and volunteers will be waiting to provide a proper welcome and orientation (including an “activity station” map). From there, attendees will be able to move between event venues.
