Tumbling to success
A Wigan based cheerleading and
dance group is set to take to the
international stage.
On Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1, Wigan
Vipers Cheer and Dance will represent the UK at the
European Cheerleading Championships in Holland.
The group received £1,000 from Wigan Council’s
Brighter Borough pot to help with the cost of
sending the 17-strong team to The Netherlands.

Councillor David Molyneux hands the cheque over
and his fellow ward councillors, Janice Sharratt and
Jim Moodie, clubbed their Brighter Borough funds
together to send the team to Holland.
Danielle Knowles set up Wigan Vipers Cheer and
Dance with a passion to offer affordable recreational
classes for youngsters.
She said: “We were invited to represent the UK
following our success on our first national event
earlier this year and we couldn’t be more excited to
represent Wigan on an international scale.
“The girls train so hard and love what they do so it’s
an honour to represent the country. We rely heavily
on fundraising, so the money from the council’s
Brighter Borough pot will help massively.”

Councillor David Molyneux said: “Giving Wigan
Vipers Cheer and Dance the opportunity to make
an international name for themselves is something
we’re proud to be a part of.
