Friends of the Bangor Public Library
The Friends of the Bangor Public Library will hold a fundraising
event on, Thursday June 14th at the Broadway Pub. , 62 Broadway,
Bangor, PA. The Pub has generously agreed to donate 10% of the
days food receipts to the library. The event runs from 11:00am
until closing. Please come out and enjoy a delicious meal while
patronizing the Bangor Public Library. For additional information

Grace UMC Family Fun Night
Grace United Methodist Church, Pen Argyl, will host a Family Fun
Night on June 15th, 5:00pm to 8:00pm has been canceled.
Avian Adventures for Scouts
Saturday, June 16th, 3:00pm-4:30pm. Have you ever wanted to learn
more about birds? There's no time like the present! Join us to learn
about what equipment you'll need, get tips on identifying birds by sight
and sound and nd out what makes bird watching such a great hobby.
This program is best for 8-18 year old scouts. Scouts are required to

Tasty Tuesdays at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bangor
Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 4th and Broadway in Bangor,
began their free bag lunch program for children, their families and
individuals within the Slate Belt community on June 12th and will
run until August 14th. Anyone who is in need of a free lunch is
welcome! Every Tuesday the bag lunch will be available for pick
up between 11:00am- 1:00pm at the church. The lunch contains
a sandwich of your choosing, juice drink and water, fresh fruit/
vegetable, healthy snack bar and chips. Please call the church office
to register 610-588-2023, or stop in any Tuesday between 11:00am-
1:00pm.
New Survival Techniques Course at NCC
Northampton Community College is offering a new non-credit class,
Survival Techniques in a Dangerous World. The course takes you through
planning and preparing for disasters and answers the question, "What
could you do if a catastrophic event occurs?" The course is presented by
Lieutenant Colonel Edward S. Henning (USA) Ret.-Military Police.
Students must be 18 years of age or older to register.
Class starts on June 18th and is held from 4:00-6:00pm in Room 130
C-D in Alumni Hall on Bethlehem Campus. To learn more and register go

A free hour-long program hosted by Grand Central Landfill, The
Blue Mountain Community Library and The Girl Scouts of Easter
Pennsylvania invites children entering Kindergarten through 4th

Upper Mount Bethel Township will hold the first of its Summer
Saturdays in the Park on June 23rd from 2:00pm to 7:00pm in
the Upper Mount Bethel Township Park, Potomac Street, Mt. Bethel.
There will be artists and vendors, kids activities, Jinxx the Clown,
face painting, great food and shopping.This will be fun for the whole

The 18th annual Bangor Elks Lodge #1106 golf tournament that
benefits major projects will be held on Monday June 25th, at
Whitetail Golf Course. It is a four person scramble format. Cost

Upper Mt Bethel & Portland July 4th Parade and Fireworks
The 2nd Annual Upper Mt Bethel and Portland July 4th Parade will
be held on Wednesday, July 4th, at 11:00am. Rain or Shine.
Parade begins at 4136 Church Street in Mt Bethel and proceeds
through the business district of Portland ( Rt 611) and ends at the
William Pensyl Social Hall in Portland. Refreshments will be provided.
Anyone who would like to participate by marching in the parade in a
patriotic costume, riding their decorated bicycle or making and riding
in a oat visit UMBT.org for a registration form. Join us for fire works
at the UMBT Community Park at 8:30 pm.

Families First Mini-Golf Tournament Winners
The 4th Annual Families First Miniature Golf Tournament at Weona
Park was held on Saturday, June 2nd.
Twelve teams that consisted of one child under 12 and one adult
competed in three age brackets for a variety of prizes.
The winners of each age bracket age 3 to 5, 1st Place Grayson
Shank, and in 2nd Place Charley Marsteller;
Age bracket 6 to 8 1st Place Marshall Shank with a score of
115: in 2nd Place Claire Kemmerer with a score of 116: and in
3rd Place Kaen Kaiser with a score of 132; Age bracket 9 to 12
1st Place Cameron Georgewith a score of 114; in 2nd Place Logan

The Bangor Park Park Board announces it's
2018 Summer Events
Saturday Night, June 23rd: Movie Night featuring Sherlock
Gnomes, movie starts at dusk and is free to the public. Refreshments
will be sold.
Friday Night, June 29th: Splashdance at the pool from 7:30pm-
9:30pm for all teens ages 13-15. Admission fee. Lifeguards and
chaperones will be present.
Friday Night, July 20th: Family Luau. 7pm to 9:30pm
admission fee includes: pool admission, DJ, games and contests
with prizes and 1 family luau souvenir photo. Food and drinks will be
available for purchase.
August 11th: Party @ the Pool! 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Spend the
afternoon at Bangor Memorial Park Pool with a D.J., fun & games
with prizes. (Admission is free if you have a Pool Pass).
August 18th (tentative): Pooch Plunge at Pool
The last day of the pool season is one for our furry friends. Come out

Greater Valley YMCA Easton/Phillipsburg branch to host
20th Annual Firecracker 4-Miler Run/Walk and Kids
Fun Run on Independence Day
The Greater Valley YMCA Easton/Phillipsburg branch, is holding
their 20th Annual Firecracker 4-Mile Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run at
Fairview Park, 3501 Fairview Ave., Easton, PA, on Wednesday, July
4th. The Firecracker 4-Mile Run/Walk is being held in memory of
long-time Y member and running enthusiast, Spencer H. Smith.
In addition to the 4-mile race, festivities will also include a free
Kids Fun Run for children 3 to 7 years of age. The most patriotically
dressed child will be awarded a special prize. The fun run is a great
way to introduce kids to competitive running and Y staff will be on
hand to encourage children along the short course. All children that
register for the fun run before Monday, June 18, will receive a medal
and youth tshirt.
The Firecracker 4-Miler embodies the Y’s cause by being available
for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Adults, children, and families
are given the ability to raise their spirits and their heartbeats through
this fun and competitive event. Proceeds from this annual fundraiser
will support youth wellness programs at the Greater Valley YMCA
Easton/Phillipsburg branch.
Participants can register at www.active.com or at the branch
located at 1225 W. Lafayette St., Easton, PA, by midnight on Monday,
June 18, to be guaranteed a t-shirt and swag bag.
Blue Valley Farm Show 4-H Scholarship Awards
The 2018-2019 BVFS scholarship winners have been announced.
Each recipient will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship in a ceremony to
be held on August 18, 2018 at the annual Blue Valley Farm Show.
This year’s winners are Marissa DeFranco and Jared Zengulis of
Bangor, Laura Kromer of Easton and Larry Eyre of Northampton.
Marissa will be a Junior at East Stroudsburg University in the fall.
Jared will be attending the American Music and Dramatic Academy
in New York City. Laura will be taking online classes with the
University of Phoenix to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary
Education. Larry will be a Sophomore at Penn State University Main
Campus in the fall where he is majoring in Animal Science.
Any student who is a past or present member of a Northampton
County 4-H Club and will be attending an institute of higher
education may apply for a scholarship. For more information

February 1, 2019.

will conduct an outdoor presentation of the manufacturing and operation of
the restored Flory slate hoists which now reside in Bethel Park.

will be showing pictures of all the area old school houses.
Thursday, September 13th, 7:00pm - “Anthracite Coal Trains in the Slate
Belt”- Craig Ealey, train historian, will do a program in honor of the
Anthracite Coal 250th Anniversary.
Thursday, October 11, 7:00pm - “Haunted Heritage Program”.
Thursday, November 8, 7:00pm - “World War I Veterans”- presented by
William Casamassima.
Sunday, December 9, 2:00pm - “The Great Slate Belt Trivia Contest”- MC
Marc Blau hosts the trivia game for teams of four. Make your own team or
just show up and join in the fun. Prizes for the winners.

Besides her busy school life she also did volunteer activities
at Bangor Career Linking Academy @ St Luke's her senior year;

Community Days two years.
Emily read her award winning assay at the club meeting and was
wished success in her future.

BAHS Alumni Association Presents the
2018 Sixth Grade All-Around Awards
In an effort to recognize well-rounded and high-achieving
elementary students, in 2013 the BAHS Alumni Association added
two new awards to be given annually. The awards are presented at
the end of the school year at the Sixth Grade Moving Up Ceremony,
which took place on June 4, 2018.
The Sixth Grade All-Around Awards are chosen by the DeFranco
Elementary School faculty and given to one boy and one girl who
have averaged 90 or better in all of their core subjects. These
students are chosen because of their academics, citizenship,
leadership, and participation in school and community activities.
This year's awards were presented to Julia Pinter, daughter of
Karyn and Martin Pinter, and Oliver Krejbich, son of Agnieszka and

for Scholarships for Class of 2018
Through generous donations from the Bangor High School
Class of 1968 in celebration of their 50th Anniversary, five
$4000 scholarships were awarded to students at the recent
Awards assembly held prior to the Commencement Exercises
of the Bangor High School Class of 2018.

Faith Christian School Class of 2018 Valedictorian and Salutatorian
Valedictorian, Amanda Lynne Smith,
the daughter of David and JacLynne Smith,
has attended Faith Christian School from
kindergarten through her senior year, with
the exception of tenth grade. She was the
treasurer of her class for her sophomore and
senior years and the president of Student
Council for her junior and senior years. An
avid athlete, Amanda has greatly enjoyed
being on the soccer team for her sophomore through senior years,
track during her sophomore year, and basketball for all four years
of high school, serving as the team captain during her junior and
senior years After school, Amanda spends her time as a waitress
at Johnnie’s Italian Restaurant, hanging out with her friends and
sisters, and playing with her dogs. Amanda plans on attending
Northampton Community College and obtaining her RN with
the intention of transferring and working to obtain her BSN and
eventually MSN to one day become a NICU nurse practitioner.
Salutatorian, Tyler Robert Brawley, the son of Brian and
Beverly Brawley, has attended Faith Christian School since
seventh grade. In his freshman year, he served as class treasurer.
In his sophomore year, Tyler began taking afternoon classes
at Monroe Career & Technical Institute for Outdoor Power
Equipment. For two consecutive quarters, he was selected as
“Student of the Quarter” at MCTI. He passed his EETC Two
and Four Stroke Engine tests and is now a certified small
engine technician. During his junior year, Tyler placed first in
the SkillsUSA District 11 competition and moved on to the
States competition where he placed third. In his senior year, he
scored Advanced on his written NOCTI test at MCTI and had a
perfect score for the hands-on portion. Tyler volunteers every
other Friday night at the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church food
pantry. He is currently a service technician at Pocono Tractor
& Equipment for Husqvarna lawn equipment. He also owns
and operates his own firewood business where he cuts, splits,
and sells 75-100 cords of firewood a year.
For the past three years, he has donated
one cord of firewood to Faith Christian’s
Gala auction. Tyler will be attending Ohio
Technical College this August for Diesel
Technology where he will obtain his
Associates degree. His plans are in God’s
hands, and he is very excited to see them
unfold.

Bobby Falatyn is the son of Nancy
Killackey. Bobby plans to attend Moravian
College and obtain a bachelors degree
and then attend medical school. His future

In this day & age if you are trying to sell a property
on your own you simply don’t understand the
necessary processes and potential complications.
Even with the guidance and services of a Realtor
there will be bumpy parts of the ride in most

occasions. It’s important that you have an expert handle
the sale of one of your largest assets. There is much to discuss on this topic. Today I
would like to speak about the Listing Agreement between Sellers and the Realtor. This
Agreement is a legally binding Agreement between you and the Real Estate Company
that you are working with. It is packed full of terminology that most Sellers are not
familiar with. Some important ones are;
*Setting the Price; Your Real Estate Agent, Broker, or Appraiser will research the
market and provide you with documentation as to the expected amount of money that
your property should bring. Consider this information seriously. Many times properties
are listed at a price that has no basis or relative to how much is owed on them. Do
your homework before selecting a list price. Most properties sell quickly when priced
correctly, or, languish on the market when they are overpriced.
*Term; The length of the Agreement is negotiable.
*Commission; This is important. Traditionally the Commission Rate is 6% of the sale
price. From this the listing Broker keeps 3% and pays 3% to a Selling Broker. This
amount has been the amount expected by a selling agent for at least the past 30 years
that I am aware of. At this time listings are low. There are more Buyers than Sellers.
Some Realtors will become greedy. They will list your property at 6% and instead of
offering seller agents 3% or ½ of the commission, they only offer the Selling agent
2.5%. If you notice it...on the Listing Agreement...you should question it. There will
be interesting reasons but none in your best interest..because, to re-itterate, the
selling agents will consider this when selecting properties to show.. Other agents may
offer a reduced rate of commission to acquire your listing. Of course they will, again,
be offering less than the traditional amount to a selling agent. This again serves no
benefit to the Seller...just benefits the listing agent.( he gets your listing ). Consider
the fact, again, that your Agent is charged with having your best interest in mind AT
ALL TIMES. It is of the utmost importance that you have faith in your Agents abilities,
trustworthiness, and motive.
* Read the fine print! You will hear all types of promises from Companies “to get their
foot in your door” Some offer to sell your home is a specified number of days or they
will buy it...Sounds awesome. You should anticipate many conditions. After all, every
company needs to make a profit or they won’t be in business.
This is my 30th year in business. I’ve heard all of the stories. I ask you this; If
you were having brain surgery would you want the best Doctor available... who is
experienced and successful? Or, would you want a surgeon who works part time, or,
needs to cut his fees to obtain patients. Your property is one of your largest assets. The
Realtor that you select is charged with selling it for you for the highest amount that it
will bring, in the shortest amount of time, with the smoothest transaction as possible.

Construction and operation of the Slate Belt Heat Recovery Center will create 40
temporary construction jobs and 16 permanent, family-sustaining jobs. These greeneconomy
jobs will be created by using renewable energy to conserve resources and
solve a waste issue we all help create. The center’s operation also will generate new

NCC to Hold Info Session on Home Health Aide Careers
Home health aides are part of the fastest-growing industry in U.S.
Career-seekers who enjoy helping others and want to become part
of the fastest-growing industry in the U.S. (healthcare) may want

people with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or cognitive impairments

Senior Farmers Market Coupons to be Available Again
in Northampton County
Coupons worth a total of $20.00 will be available to Northampton
County residents age 60 and over who meet income eligibility criteria
thanks to continuation of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program by
the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The coupons are distributed by the
Northampton County Area Agency on Aging.
Northampton County residents age 60 or over who meet income eligibility
(example: $22,459/yr. for a single person in 2018, and $30,451 for a couple)
may receive the coupons in June, 2018. For married couples, both spouses
may obtain coupons. Proof of age and residence must be presented by
all persons wishing to receive coupons. Program policies allow a person
to obtain coupons for another person only if they have a completed and
signed proxy form. Additionally, a person may only serve as proxy for up to
four other participants and identification with date of birth and address, of
the older adult, must be shown when presenting a proxy. This form will be
available for pick-up at the AAA office, 2801 Emrick Boulevard, Bethlehem,
and all senior centers, and will also be available on the AAA’s website, www.
northamptoncounty.org. Persons may only receive coupons once during the
program, which runs from June 4, 2018 until September 27, 2018.

Slate Belt Senior Center Host to the 36th Annual
Northampton County Senior Games
The Slate Belt Senior Center was host to the 36th annual Northampton
County Senior Games on June 8th. A total of one hundred thirty-five seniors
from Nazareth, Northampton, Old York Road-Bethlehem Cherryville, Life
Style Campus, Mid County and the Slate Belt competed in eleven different
events.. Twenty-four volunteers from the Aging in Place and Student Nurses
from the Moravian School of Nursing helped and kept score. A bag lunch
was served, door prizes given, and medals awarded to the respective winner
in each event. Cherryville seniors accumulated the most with a total of
thirty. The crowd was thrilled with the magical talents of Ron Schafer.

A staff member from State Representative Joe Emrick's district
office will be at the Forks Township Community Center on
Thursday, June 21, from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00-5:00pm. The
community center is located at 500 Zucksville Road.
This service is offered on the first and third Thursday of each
month to make it easier for constituents who may find it difficult to
reach the Slate Belt and Nazareth district offices. My staff is available
on those days to answer any state government questions you might

The Presbyterian Church of the Mountain Gazebo Concert Series
kicked off its summer concert series in early June. Concerts are
free to the public on Sunday evenings from 6:30pm-7:30pm at the
Gazebo, at the Church of the Mountain, Main Street, Delaware Water
Gap, PA. Concerts will be held indoors in the event of inclement

Blue Mt Community Library News
Join the fun this summer at the Blue Mountain Community
Library by spending time reading library books. The summer
reading program for Pre-K through 6th grade begins June 18th and
continues until August 11th. Read two or more books each week,
record them on a reading log and choose a prize from the Reading
Rewards Box! At the party on August 15, those who have read the
most books will receive an extra prize. Come join the fun; there is so
much to discover in the world of BOOKS.
The BMCL will also offer a summer reading program for Young
Adults and Adults. BOOK BINGO begins on June 18 and continues
through August 11. Fill in a Bingo Card by writing the titles of the
books you’ve read in the bingo blocks and return to the library.
Readers entering grades 7-12 will have to complete a horizontal,
vertical or diagonal line to be entered into a drawing for one of two
$10 gift cards to Barnes and Noble. Adult Readers (18 and up) will
be entered into a drawing for one of two $10 gift cards to Barnes and

Monroe County Historical Association
The Monroe County Historical Association is pleased to announce a free
presentation open to the public. Photographer, author, and former history
teacher Bill Lowenburg will give his presentation, “Every Picture Tells a
Story: Historical Photographs from Monroe County” as part of the Third
Thursday Lecture Series. The program will be Thursday, June 21, 2018, at
7:00pm. at the Stroud Mansion, 900 Main Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
Featuring a selection of photographs from the Monroe County Historical
Association’s collection, Bill's commentary will range from the historical and
social context of the images to their composition and value as story starters.
Several old cameras will also be presented and compared to modern digital
cameras.
Bill Lowenburg is the author of the photo documentary Crash Burn Love.
His photographs and articles have been published in Top Gear, London
Telegraph, International Journal of Photography, Popular Photography,
and other international publications. Bill studied with Larry Fink and has
taught photography on the graduate level for Wilkes University. He is also
the author of The Zorki Chronicles, a novel whose narrator is a young
photographer.
The Third Thursday Lecture Series is free, but reservations are required
due to limited space. Light refreshments will be served. The presentation
will be held on the 2nd floor of the Stroud Mansion, which is not handicapaccessible.

Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Ice Cream
Ingredients:
• 1 can (29 oz) 100% pure pumpkin puree
to a blender, blending until smooth.
• 1/2 cup Peanut Butter
• 1 cup Plain yogurt
Makes 4-5 cups
1. Add above ingredients to blender or use hand mixer,
blend until smooth.
2. Pour mixture into a freezer-safe container. To make individual
portions you can pour mixture into ice cube trays or small food
containers.
3. Cover and freeze for several hours or up to a day before serving.
4. When frozen scoop single servings into your dog’s bowl.
