Manga to Anime<br />

Workshop<br />

An artistic tradition based in Japan, print<br />

comics known as manga have become a<br />

popular art form worldwide. Animated<br />

filmmaking derived from manga is known<br />

as anime. In this class, you’ll learn about line,<br />

contour and figure drawing to create your own<br />

manga-inspired anime, using graphics tablets<br />

and animation software.<br />

Find the direction and support you need to<br />

create a strong portfolio under the guidance<br />

of a knowledgeable and talented artist.<br />

No matter what your medium, we’ll help<br />

you synthesize an artist’s statement and<br />

document your work in a way that’s easily<br />

shareable. Depending on your art form, we<br />

may suggest that you create either a digital or<br />

physical portfolio. Please bring an example of<br />

your work to our first meeting.<br />

High School<br />

Digital Video Workshop<br />

6 Saturdays Jan 20 - Feb 24 1:00pm - 4:00pm<br />

$225 members / $250 non-members<br />

This class offers a solid foundation in the<br />

skills essential to digital movie creation--<br />

composition, cinematography, audio, editing,<br />

and more. In-class screenings and discussion<br />

of narrative, documentary, and experimental<br />

films and videos will establish a command<br />

of the language of filmmaking. Students will<br />

collaborate on projects and make a short<br />

(2-4 min) film of their own using digital video<br />

cameras and Adobe Premiere.<br />

Family Workshops<br />

Family Workshops are the perfect opportunity for parents and children to create together. An<br />

adult must accompany all children and all attendees must register. Family Workshops are $50<br />

for two people, plus $25 for each additional person (up to three children per adult).<br />

Create and Animate<br />

Saturday, January 13, 1:00pm - 4:00pm<br />

Create a world of your own in this fun family workshop combining collage and sculpture with storytelling and<br />

animation. You’ll work together to brainstorm an original story, design a unique set, and create zany characters. Then,<br />

bring everything to life through stop-motion animation, using tablets and apps!<br />

Get ready for Valentine’s Day by creating together with PF/<strong>PCA</strong>! Come to our photo booth to shoot family portraits<br />

and learn a few basic digital photography tips. Then, design and screen-print original valentine cards in our<br />

Draw from a clothed model to gain experience<br />

with gesture and contour and learn about<br />

proportion and anatomy. You’ll use materials<br />

like charcoal, oil pastel and paint to hone your<br />

observational skills. Move beyond sketched<br />

studies to create a successful piece of<br />

artwork.<br />

Take to the skies in this introduction to<br />

unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, or drones).<br />

You’ll learn about different types of drones<br />

and their various uses before using a flight<br />

simulator to see what it’s like to fly. Then head<br />

outside to experiment with several different<br />

models, including micro drones, quadcopters,<br />

and cinema drones. We’ll also discuss the<br />

legality of flying UAVs, and what it takes to<br />

build your own flying machine.<br />

Learn about the innovative possibilities of drones in this exploratory family workshop. We’ll discuss different types<br />

of flying machines and their uses, then take to the skies with a flight simulator and micro drone.<br />

Making Mugs<br />

Saturday, March 17, 1:00pm - 4:00pm<br />

Learn about ceramics by creating your own unique mug, using the slab process. Individualize your piece by adding<br />

texture​and a handle; then​,​send it off to be glazed. Note: Participants will need to pick up their creations the<br />

following week.<br />

This workshop serves as an introduction to<br />

digital illustration for students interested in<br />

drawing, animating, and creating characters<br />

and worlds of their own. You’ll learn how to<br />

create computer-generated 2D animations<br />

using a stylus and graphics tablet, while<br />

referencing animations viewed in class<br />

to inform and improve your work. Work<br />

with Adobe Animate to explore the vast<br />

possibilities of animation, and begin bringing<br />

your own unique stories to life!<br />

This workshop provides an opportunity for<br />

curious photographers of all skill levels to<br />

produce images using the analog process.<br />

We’ll cover photograms, pinhole cameras and<br />

black-and-white 35mm film photography.<br />

After choosing and digitizing your best prints,<br />

you’ll then explore contemporary digital tools<br />

like Photoshop and Lightroom to edit your<br />

images.<br />

$365 members / $390 non-members<br />

Combine digital photography and ceramics<br />

for a unique, multimedia final product. Learn<br />

to harness the power of digital photography<br />

and Adobe InDesign and PhotoShop to create<br />

original designs, then transfer your images<br />

onto handmade ceramic pottery and tiles that<br />

you create. Specific glazes, in conjunction with<br />

your digital images, will further embellish the<br />

final look of your wares. Bring your own digital<br />

camera or borrow one of ours; all materials<br />

provided.<br />

Get in the spirit for spring! At this Family Maker Day, we’ll use the mosaic technique to create suncatchers, and<br />

explore metalsmithing by creating our own unique bracelets.<br />

Looking to get creative as a family? This workshop is for you - and yours! Brainstorm and sketch ideas together, then<br />

create some beautiful stained glass pieces using the mosaic technique.<br />
