In a hard fought final staged in windy conditions, the versatile Hogan showed skill and a cool temperament to claim the championship. Norm’s tribute to music greats at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club Norm’s performance takes the audience through the journey of some of the greats in the music business like Jones, Diamond, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Johnny O’Keefe, Cliff Richard and Elvis just to mention a few. Long time patrons would remember Norm who performed regularly at the Club during the 1970s and ‘80s with one of the first ever duos Jan and Norm and later the band Fame. Wednesday 20 June, 2018 THE WEEKLY TIMES 31 Rhinos unveil new $190,000 lighting system By CHRIS KARAS HOLY Cross Rhinos Junior Rugby League Club officially opened their newly installed lighting system at Brother Benedict Olsen Oval Ryde last week during a special Friday Night Lights Mini League event. A dedication plaque on one of the poles was unveiled with directors from Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club - the main financial contributors to the project - in attendance. Pictured with Holy Cross Rhinos president Ryhs Provan and Senior Vice President Brad Wilson are RELC directors Jack King, Paul Moujalli, General Manager Chris Mc- Carthy, John O’Brien, Malcolm Chapple, president Jim McClymont, Balmain Junior League Operations Manager Jennie Webster along with Rhinos’ Mini League juniors. Wests Tigers’ stars Luke Brooks and Esan Marsters - two Holy Cross College Ryde products - lent their support on the night by providing tips to participating players in the U/9 Mini League fixtures at half time and presenting the game ball to the player of each match. Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club donated $90,000 towards the Rhinos’ $190,000 floodlight project with Lane Cove MP Anthony Roberts also presenting the club with a $30,000 Community Building Partnership grant. Rhinos’ Senior Vice President Brad Wilson thanked the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Cluh and Mr Roberts for their significant contributions which he said will enable the Holy Cross teams to train under floodlights. “We have 250 players who will be able to train here at night and raising this money would have been very difficult for us,” he said. “I especially acknowledge the support we have from the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club and from other strong supporters in our community.” TWT on-the-spot PHOTO. FOOTY TIPSTERS Marsters to debut for Kiwis in Denver Test BOOM Wests Tigers centre Esan Marsters will represent New Zealand in the one-off rugby league Test against England in Denver this weekend. The goalkicking back, who has already played two international fixtures for the Cook Islands, earned his Kiwi spurs after dynamic performances for the Tigers in this year’s NRL competition. 21 year old Marsters, who was rewarded for his superb form with a two year contract extension back in April, has impressed new Kiwi coach Michael Maguire with his skill and powerful running and is set to debut for New Zealand against the Poms at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver this Saturday. WESTS TIGERS V MEANWHILE five Wests Tigers players - Kevin Naiqama , Tui Lolohea, Michael Chee Kam, Josh Aloiai and Pita Godinet - feature in the Pacific Test Invitational double header this Saturday at Campbelltown Stadium. Naiqama will skipper Fiji Bati in the opening match against Papua New Guinea Kumuls at 4pm while Lolohea lines up for Tonga against a Samoan side that includes Chee Kam, Aloiai and Godinet in the main game at 7.10pm. All four Pacific Test teams will call western Sydney home for the week, with Campbelltown playing host to a GOLD COAST TITANS number of community and cultural events as well as the annual Pacific Test Fan Day and NRL Pacific Youth Program. The Pacific Test Fan Day takes place at Campbelltown Athletics Track on Wednesday June 20 from 4:30pm with live entertainment, stalls, player interviews, cultural performances and full team signing and selfie sessions.
