Lions Cash-a-Can
Project to close
After 33 years of operation
Ryde Lions Cash-A-Can project
will cease on September
15.
Up until January 2017, Ryde
Lions members were on duty
every Saturday morning from
8.30am to 12 noon in the heat,
rain and cold.
Lions bought cans from the
community and then on sold to
Sims Metal, raising funds which
were then donated back to local
community projects such as
hospitals, schools and individuals
in need of assistance.
The Lions Club of City of
Ryde sincerely thank all those
who have supported their
Cash-A-Can project over the
33 years.
Lions will be on duty from
8.30am to 12 noon on the first
and third Saturdays of each
month up until September 15
and will be paying 80c a kg.

MEET Concord RSL Women’s Auxiliary stalwart
Freda Sutton who was recognised with an OAM
last week in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours
List for her sterling service to veterans and their
families. Hard working Freda of Concord, who
has served as Auxiliary president for 31 years, is
pictured celebrating her deserved award at the
Concord RSL Club with fellow members.
The week before, her original electric Singer
sewing machine broke - so Freda went out
and bought herself a new one. As the large
supermarket stores are getting rid of plastic bags,
Freda decided that she had better get busy and
make lots of material bags to give away.
